Due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, besides the implementation of Covid-19 precautionary measures, Khanh Hoa Province has strengthened inspection and supervision at many facilities together with fines and penalties for non-compliance.

During the unprecedented outbreak when many locally transmitted cases have been reported in Vietnam since late April, Dinh Van Thieu, Vice-Chairman of the Provincial People’s Committee has conducted inspection at some accommodation facilities served as quarantine areas; and massage service and karaoke parlors in Nha Trang City.

A random inspection was conducted at Ariyana SmartCondotel Nha Trang Hotel, one of 36 hotels approved to serve as quarantine hotels by the province for nationals from abroad. Currently, 140 people, mostly Vietnamese citizens returning from the U.S.A are in quarantine at the hotel. The hotel was found to be proactive in the pandemic control and prevention. “The hotel receives and serves nationals from April 26 to May 12. Selected as a quarantine facility, Ariyana SmartCondotel Nha Trang Hotel is not open to normal guests. The 6th to 18th floors are used for quarantine. The hotel maintained pandemic control and prevention procedures,” said Vo Quang Hoang, General Manager of Ariyana SmartCondotel Nha Trang Hotel.

Nha Trang City remains at high risk of COVID-19 infections, so Nha Trang City People’s Committee has instructed communes and wards to boost propaganda for adherence to the Ministry of Health’s “5K” guidelines and recommendations, forcing everyone to wear face masks when going out. 28 fines, VND2 million each were issued for  people not wearing face masks in public places during the first 7 days of the propaganda and inspection.

Luu Thanh Nhan, Vice- Chairman of Nha Trang City People’s Committee said, on May 2, the city founded 3 mobile teams and 10 others for pandemic prevention and control inspection in wards and communes. Besides propaganda, fines are applied for offenses. The inspection teams will complete their duty on May 24 or continue based on the actual situation.

According to Huynh Van Dong, Director of Khanh Hoa Center for Disease Control, no locally transmitted case of the coronavirus has been reported in the province so far. However, everyone is urged to continue adhering to the Ministry of Health’s “5K” guidelines and recommendations, especially wearing face masks in public places,  avoiding large gatherings and reporting any case of non-compliance.

Apart from facilities recognized with good compliance with Covid-19-related restrictions, some were found violating some pandemic prevention and control procedures such as failure to complete medical declaration and update information on the COVID-19 Safety Living Map System, etc.

Besides the Provincial People’s Committee’s inspection, the Department of Health’s Inspectors have carried out inspections at 10 accommodation facilities registering as voluntarily paid quarantine places. Some violations included lack of 24-hour surveillance at guard stations, lack of the sign “Covid-19 quarantine area. Do not enter without authorization”, improper collection of waste, etc.

Regarding food safety, all the facilities have kitchens separate from quarantine areas. The facilities were reminded to abide by the precautionary procedures to avoid cross transmission in quarantine areas. In spite of the unprecedented outbreak together with fines issued for non-compliance, some people without face masks are still seen in public places.
