The work on the National Highway 1 leading to Dam Mon, Van Ninh District, Khanh Hoa Province is being accelerated and expected to be put into operation in the 3rd quarter of 2021.

Site clearance basically completed

The work on the National Highway 1 leading to Dam Mon is a major road project attracting investors to Van Phong Economic Zone. The project was implemented in October 2016 with 575 plots of 460 people affected. Those affected by the site clearance work are mostly in Van Tho Commune with 54 people eligible for resettlement.

After 4 years of implementation, the project has met site clearance obstacles affecting the construction progress. Van Ninh District People's Committee has coerced 15 cases to site clearance and handover. The cases had intentionally failed to comply with the law and provisions, encroached on project area, etc. Many of them after receiving the enforcement decision have voluntarily dismantled and removed their properties and moved to new places.

According to Ngo Quang Dai, Director of Van Ninh Land Fund Development Center, after a period of the mobilization, the site clearance for the construction of the National Highway 1 leading to Dam Mon has neared completion. The contractor has focused on executing work in the sites already cleared for construction. The center will continue coordinating with local authorities to promote the mobilization of people to receive compensations and hand over the land. Aquaculture households on the right side of the road have also committed to hand over the sites to the construction unit after the harvests,

Execution focused

After receiving the construction site already cleared, the investor namely the management board of Van Phong Economic Zone has asked contractors to speed up the execution process. 70% of the work has been completed. The National Highway 1 leading to Dam Mon is scheduled to be completed by the end of the 3rd quarter of 2021, promising to bring socio-economic development prospects in the Northern Van Phong area.

The site clearance obstacles have been basically solved after years, facilitating the construction implementation. Contractors have committed to ensure the contract schedule. However, a problem arising is the lack of about VND70 billion from the central capital allocated for the project. Therefore, the board is still waiting for the central capital plan for the project disbursement, according to Hoang Dinh Phi, Chief of the management board of Van Phong Economic Zone.

Besides the project on the National Highway 1 leading to Dam Mon, in the 2021 – 2025 period, the management board of Van Phong Economic Zone has also suggested the province and the Government invest in 2 roads outside Van Phong International Transshipment Port and Nguyen Hue with a total capital of VND1,148 billion.

The National Highway 1 leading to Dam Mon is invested by the management board of Van Phong Economic Zone with a total capital of more than VND998 billion. The 4-lane road is 14.3km long and 36m wide. The project is to connect traffic from the National Highway 1 to the center of Hon Gom (non-tariff area of Van Phong Economic Zone), facilitating traffic on Hon Gom Peninsula, gradually improving infrastructures in the northern Van Phong Economic Zone, attracting investment and promoting the development of the economic zone.
