The 2021 Red Spring campaign themed “Donate blood regularly. Give blood. Save lives” was launched  by Cam Ranh Steering Board for Blood Donation  at the city political and cultural center  on February 25 . The campaign is scheduled to last from now to the end of March of 2021 with 4 blood donation sessions on February 25, March 5, March 24 and March 31.

On the first blood donation day of 2021, many arrived early to get ready for the blood donation. During the unprecedented Covid-19 pandemic, the steering board assured secure guidance compliance such as temperature checks, use of hand sanitizer, face masks and distancing for all volunteers.

Public servants and laborers were mobilized to join the blood donation drive. Donors were separated into different donation periods to avoid crowds. “This is my first time of blood donation but I don’t feel worried. I hope I have a good health to continue donating blood the next time,” said Pham Thi Bich Phuong, a teacher at Nguyen Van Troi High School.

As planned, in the first blood donation drive of 2021 (4 days), the steering board has set a target of 200 units of blood. 420 members from grassroots Trade Unions registered to donate blood on the first day. Of those, 355 were eligible for blood donation and gave 355 units of blood, exceeding 77% of the plan.

The blood donation drive in early 2021 has received satisfactory results. The campaign has attracted public servants and laborers from many local agencies, contributing to educating young people about social responsibility for community sake. The blood collected will be used for medical treatment to resolve the scarcity of blood, according to Bui Thi Luong, Chairperson of the City Red Cross.

Cam Ranh City has set a target of 1,200 units of blood in 2021. In order to meet the plan, the steering board has built a blood donation plan with 4 drives (10 donation sessions) as follows: the 1st drive (January - March) themed “Red Spring” with the target of 200 units of blood donated; 2nd drive (April – June) themed “summer blood donation” with the target of 800 units of blood, 3rd drive (July-September) in response to the Red Journey launched by Vietnam Red Cross with the target of 200 units of blood, and 4th drive (October-December) in response to the foundation anniversaries of Vietnam Women’s Union and Vietnam Red Cross (November 23) with the target of 200 units of blood.
