In spite of COVID-19, many enterprises in Khanh Hoa are trying to maintain activities to celebrate New Year holiday for workers together with year-end bonuses and pay.

Care for employees

Fast-paced work atmosphere for export orders in early 2021 can be seen at plants at Thong Thuan - Cam Ranh Seafood Joint Stock Company (Suoi Dau Industrial Zone, Cam Lam District). Nguyen Dinh Hien, Vice-Director of the company says in spite of COVID-19 impacts, the company strived to remain operational, paying VND7-8 million/person/month to more than 800 workers in 2020. The company received export orders to the U.S.A, Europe, Japan and South Korea. During the hard times, all the staff tried their best to overcome challenges. This New Year holiday, the company is planning to offer New Year bonus worth VND1-1.5 million and an extra salary/ person.

Hai Long Nha Trang Company, Ltd. has also planned to pay New Year bonuses to nearly 1,000 employees. The bonus is worth VND1 million for the New Year Day and based on the yearly average income for Tet or the Lunar New Year. Besides, the company will also offer gifts which are its products; and 50 gifts for workers in need; the Trade Union will give gifts worth VND500,000 each. In spite of hardship, the company has made attempt to assure work, income and other benefits for its employers as taking care of employees is investment in the development of the company, according to Hua Hoang Thien, Chairman of Hai Long Nha Trang Company, Ltd.

According to Doan Ngoc Cu, Chairman of the Trade Union of Tin Thinh Company, Ltd, the company had to cut production and business due to COVID-19 impacts but still tried to keep minimum salary for long-term employees. The company has balanced its financial resources to be able to reward one-month minimum regional salary to employees. Besides, the Trade Union will also  give Tet gifts to employees.

Burden sharing

Year-end bonuses are reported by 179 companies to be lower than in 2020. Specifically, the 2021 New Year bonus is VND550,000/ person on average, ranging between VND2.7 million and VND500,000/person. The Lunar New Year bonus is VND5.4 million/person on average, ranging between VND6.5 million and VND4.8 million/person. Most workers are aware of challenges facing the company, so they are willing to share the difficulty with the company to overcome the hard time. Employees understand that rewards for this challenging year must be lower than previously.

“The company is trying to maintain jobs with stable monthly income and benefits. That is really a good thing in the current situation. We are very happy that the company still offers bonuses to workers this year. This is the motivation for workers to stay long with the company,” said Phan Ngoc Tram, a worker of Thong Thuan Cam Ranh Seafood Joint Stock Company. Sharing the same point of view, Hoang Van Thanh, a worker of Tin Thinh Co., Ltd. said, “We have some time off with a drop in earning. The company has been faced with difficulties, but still made efforts to pay salaries, bonuses and maintain benefits for workers. It is really valuable. This not only shows the responsibility of the company to the employees, but also provides us motivation to continue staying with the company.”

Year-end holiday bonuses and pay are always employees’ top concern after a year of work. Despite great difficulties due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, businesses are trying to ensure bonuses and pay for employees, showing efforts to take care of and retain workers. 2 enterprises in the province have taken loans to pay employees who have quitted work. However, enterprises in the tourism sector are the hardest affected by COVID-19, so just some are providing Tet bonuses, according to Van Dinh Tri, Deputy Director of Khanh Hoa Department of Labor, War invalids & Social Affairs.
