Practical assistance resources

An orphan named Huynh Phuong Thanh, a 9th-grader, Nguyen Tri Phuong Junior High School, Ninh Tho Commune, Ninh Hoa Town, is living with her maternal grandparents. Her family is struggling to make ends meet. His grandmother named Huynh Ngoc Vinh said, “My family is offered loan assistance VND4 million annually for 4 years now. I have invested the money in poultry farming. I always pay the interest on schedule.”

Ho Thi Ngoc Ha, Ninh Diem Ward, Ninh Hoa Town has 5 children at school age. Her family earns living from making rice cakes. Since 2006, the education aid loan, VND4 million/year, for Le Thi Ngoc Lam, has helped cover daily expenses and school tuition. “The financial aid helps us to get through the tough time,” she said.

Aid loans have been provided for 48 households for over the past 10 years through the social and educational assistance funding, helping improve their life and empower children to continue their academic pursuits, according to Nguyen Thi Thanh Lam, an official in charge of the aid loan funding at the Social Work Center and Children’s Fund in Ninh Diem Ward.

Continued assistance for school children

Khanh Hoa Center for Social Work and Children’s Protection Fund has boosted programs and expanded community models to improve care service for poor and vulnerable children. The social and education aid loans for children’s sake has been implemented since 2006 committed to helping disadvantaged families to overcome barriers, improve their life and thus minimize school-drops-out and child labor. Since its implementation, 100 needy families with school-aged children in most of communities in Khanh Hoa are provided aid loans every year, according to Tran Hiep, Director of Khanh Hoa Center for Social Work and Children’s Protection Fund.

“My husband is suffering from a severe disease. The whole family is living on my modest income from clothing repairs. Therefore, 2 years ago, I thought of letting the child quit schooling due to the financial hardship. I am so grateful for aid loans from the Social Work Center and Children’s Fund. It is such an encouragement to us for greater efforts to assure the child remains at school,” her mother named Phan Thi Hong in Ninh Dien, Ninh Tho Commune, Ninh Hoa Town said.

Through monthly scholarships and sponsorship for disadvantaged children, surgery and rehabilitation for disabled children, home construction for children’s sake, vocational training and job recommendation; gifts offered to children; and assistance to meet goals for children’s sake, the Social Work Center and Children’s Fund has facilitated thousands of children to overcome difficulties, improve medical conditions and integrate into the community. Many have achieved high results in study and practice. In the coming time, the Social Work Center and Children’s Fund will continue seeking donations from local and foreign organizations and individuals to assist needy children in various ways and expand the assistance to reach remote communities and ethnic minority people through such charity activities as providing financial aid for orthopedic and cardiac surgeries; cleft lip and cleft palate repairs; offering bikes, long-term scholarships, notebooks, etc.
