The model “Giving and making difference” implemented by Dien Dong Commune Women’s Association, Dien Khanh District for 1 year has reached out to help several women and children in need. The model has been highly appreciated by Dien Khanh District Women’s Union.

Making and seeking donation

With the aim to support women and children to overcome difficulties as well as develop happy families, in December 2019, the Executive Committee of Dien Dong Commune Women's Union registered with the commune leaders and Dien Khanh District Women's Union to inaugurate the model under the motto "Everyone should share and give the best to others". The model is to raise fund from members and seek resources from sponsors to help disadvantaged women and children.

The model “Giving and making difference” initially had 30 members, including 5 in the management board led by Nguyen Thi Thu Thanh, Deputy Chairperson of the Commune Women's Union. Responsibilities are assigned to members based on the principles of voluntariness, democracy, openness, transparency and unity.

Activities are held periodically twice a month. Each member donates VND60,000/month to the fund. Every month, the Management Board implements, reviews and evaluates tasks; announces the funding raised and assesses the eligibility for assistance.

“Members are enthusiastic to join the model. In addition to fulfilling their duties, members also take advantage of their own relationships to seek for more resources from sponsors to increase the operational fund to expand beneficiaries to old, lonely and sick people," said Nguyen Thi Minh Nguyet, Chairwoman of Dien Dong Commune Women's Association.

Spreading kindness

Since its foundation, the model has attracted additional 37 members, bringing the total membership to 67. More than VND48.5 million aid has gone to regular support and urgent assistance with 224 gifts, containing 1kg of rice/home/month, for members, women and children in need; and 80 gifts worth VND200,000 each offered to poor homes in the commune.

70-year-old Nguyen Thi Thuy Lan in Village 1, one of the beneficiaries of the model, has to take care of her daughter completely paralyzed after a traffic accident and 3 grandchildren. Their life is so hard. Her family has received help from others in the community, especially from the Commune Women's Association. The association offers her family 10kg of rice every month. In addition, her family has been given priority in other gift giving events.

The model of charitable giving of Dien Dong Commune Women's Association is worth expanding. Its activities have connected kind hearts, spread love and the spirit of mutual support among women and helped those in need, contributing to making a difference, inspiring many to overcome difficulties in life, according to Ngo Thi Thanh Binh, Deputy Chairperson of Dien Khanh District Women's Union.
