Nha Trang City has maintained considerable growth, especially in tourism and service industries and infrastructure investment over the past years, serving its position as a central urban area of Khanh Hoa Province under Resolution No. 10 dated July 11, 2016 by Khanh Hoa Party Committee on socio-economic development boost in Nha Trang City.
Tourism center
Tourism industry, particularly sea and island tourism, in Nha Trang City has continued its considerable growth, promoting its strength and potentials. Many tourism projects have been implemented in the city with 130 projects so far, including 38 already operational totaling VND47,644 billion, mainly located along Tran Phu Street, Pham Van Dong Street, on south-western Hon Tre and Hon Mot Island with a total capital of nearly VND71,614 billion.

Tourism infrastructures have been deeply invested with a variety of tourism products attracting an increasing large number of international visitors to the beach city. Till late 2019, the city received 6.5 million tourists, up by 55%, including nearly 3 million international travelers, up by 181.9% compared with the year 2016. The tourism turnover in Nha Trang City in 2019 reached nearly VND24,259 billion, up by 211.2% compared with the year 2016. Tourism turnover accounted for 85.7% in 2019 and it is expected to make up 85.5% of the total turnover in the province in 2020 (precipitous fall due to COVID-19).
Many new urban areas formed
Many major traffic constructions have been completed and put into operation in the city as a central urban area, contributing to providing considerable stimulus to the general growth of the province. They include Nha Trang – Da Lat Road, Nha Trang – Dien Khanh road section, Phong Chau Street, lengthened Nguyen Thien Thuat Street, lengthened Tran Nhat Duat, Street No. 4, etc. Khanh Hoa People’s Committee is focusing funding on major projects which are underway such as the ring road 2 linking with Ngoc Hoi traffic point; roads and traffic points connecting with Nha Trang Airport, lengthened To Hien Thanh Street and some other projects with drawing design and site clearance procedures underway or about to start construction such as Provincial Road 3 and D30 Road. Besides, several projects on urban infrastructures, resettlement area infrastructures and irrigation facilities have received synchronous investment to meet the city development demand.
Over the past years, Nha Trang City has experienced broad urbanization with the formation of many new spacious urban areas, namely VCN Phuoc Hai, VCN - Phuoc Long I, VCN - Phuoc Long II, An Binh Tan, Le Hong Phong I, Le Hong Phong II, My Gia, etc, with technical infrastructures completed synchronously, linked with existing urban areas and put into business operation, contributing to enhancing the city’s appearance in the west. In addition, many projects are being accelerated such as Ngoc Hiep Ward residential area, Con Tan Lap residential area and residential and urban areas in the west of Nha Trang City connected to Dien Khanh such as NVT residential area, Hung Thinh residential area and Phuc Khanh 1-2 urban area in order to decrease population density, form satellite towns and promote riverside tourism.
Breakthrough in measures required
Besides achievements, there have remained some shortcomings related to projects behind schedule, urban order management challenges, limited human resources in tourism; traffic infrastructures failing to keep up with the increase in road vehicles, difficulty in land fund allocation for stationary traffic facilities, etc. Synchronous and drastic solutions are required to solve these shortcomings and limitations in the coming time.
Nha Trang City needs to overcome above challenges and limitations, focus on synchronous and breakthrough innovations in order to take good advantage of its potentials and strengths with continued orientation to create a strong socio-economic growth motive for the province. Determined with socio-economic development on the basis of a modern tourist city, Nha Trang City will continue promoting investment in infrastructure development; ensuring both natural and social environments; diversifying tourism products, developing technical infrastructures for each type of tourism product; promoting agricultural industrialization; paying attention to human resource training (in terms of management and labor), improving intellectual levels; ensuring social security and safety; particularly, taking synchronous and effective solutions to meet the goals and other contents pursuant to the Prime Minister's Decision on approving the general planning adjustment in Nha Trang City till 2040, according to Le Huu Tho, Member of Khanh Hoa Provincial Standing Party Committee, Nha Trang City Party Committee Secretary.
