Khanh Hoa Development Project Management Board held an inauguration ceremony for a project on a saltwater intrusion prevention dam over Cai River, Ngoc Hiep Ward, Nha Trang City on September 25.
 
Present at the event were Nguyen Khac Dinh, Central Party Committee Member, Khanh Hoa Provincial Party Committee Secretary; Nguyen Khac Toan, Alternate Member of the Party Central Committee, Permanent Vice- Secretary of Khanh Hoa Party Committee; Nguyen Tan Tuan, Vice- Secretary of Khanh Hoa Party Committee, Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee; Ha Quoc Tri, Vice-Secretary of Khanh Hoa Party Committee; and members in the Provincial Standing Party Committee and leaders of Provincial People’s Committee. Central delegate was Nguyen Hoang Hiep, Vice-Minister of Agriculture & Rural Development. This is a construction to mark the 18th  Khanh Hoa Provincial Communist Party Congress, term 2020 - 2025.

The dam is built 75 meters downstream from the railway bridge, connecting the existing residential area of Ngoc Hiep Ward through Ngo Den Street. This multi-purpose project includes reinforced concrete pillars, 5 stainless steel compartments, 30m each, and a dock. A 2-way traffic bridge over the dam consists of 9 spans, 26m wide each, pedestrian walkways, 1.75m wide each, with a total length of 400m, including ways leading to the bridge. The project is invested by Khanh Hoa Development Project Management Board with a total capital of nearly VND760 billion from the central funding and provincial reciprocal funding.
 
The multi-purpose project is to hold back the intrusion of seawater during dry seasons, assure flooding flow, protect water quality for some 500,000 residents in Nha Trang City and partly in Dien Khanh District; serve tourism activities and irrigation for 2,000ha of agricultural land on the 2 river banks and the operation of Nha Trang Fiber Factory; connect transport over Cai River following the ring road 2 to facilitate travel and provide a considerable stimulus to socioeconomic development in Nha Trang City, contributing to maintaining the water level, improving ecological environment, serving waterway traffic, developing tourism along Cai River; regulating partly water flow into Tac and Quan Truong Rivers and thus improving the urban environment in the west and south of the city.
 
The project is expected to be completed and put into use by the end of 2022. On this occasion, Trung Nam 18 E&C Construction Joint Stock Company (execution unit) donated VND200 million to Khanh Hoa Department of Health in support of COVID-19 control and prevention.
