The Central Institute of Veterinary Research & Development is specialized in conducting scientific research and applying results in the production of valuable products in veterinary field, contributing  the socio-economic growth of the country. The institute has overcome difficulties to win trust among scientists and farmers nationwide.

The institute has required its groups and individuals to register emulation titles with specific targets based on assigned functions, tasks and emulation objectives. Through emulation campaigns, many initiatives and solutions have been recognized and applied in production and business. Since 2016, seventeen initiatives and projects, including researches winning high prizes at the Scientific & Technical Creation Contests at the provincial and national levels, have been implemented.

Especially, the research on “Prosthogonimus diagnosis and treatment” by PhD Nguyen Duc Tan, PhD Nguyen Van Thoai and their collaborators won the first prize at the National 2018 – 2019 Technological Creations Contest (VIFOTEC).  This new procedures is being applied in the provinces of Khanh Hoa, Binh Dinh, Phu Yen, Lam Dong, etc and recognized as a technical advance in agriculture by the Department of Animal Health. “Microsporidian Enterocytozoon hepatopenaei (EHP) detection by using Real-time Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) method” by PhD Vu Khac Hung and his collaborators was awarded the third prize at the National 2018 – 2019 Technological Creations Contest.

In addition, its 9 disease preventive procedures applied in reality and 6 vaccines under license application for circulation include Extraction of Clostridium perfringens spores to prevent chronic or acute enteritis in cows, sheep, goats; PMT substances against Pasteurellosis; prevention of hepatitis in ducks; Gumboro - Newcastle vaccine; trivalent vaccine (Pasteurellosis, Samonellosis, hog cholera); quadrivalent vaccine (Pasteurellosis, Samonellosis, Rhusiopathia Suum, hog cholera).

Moreover, the institute has successfully researched 4 vaccines against Escherichia coli, Pasteurellosis and Rhusiopathia Suum; MycoI.Vac against Mycoplasma hyopneumoniae; and bivalent vaccine against E.coli and S. cholerae suis and transferred the results to production facilities of the institute.

Apart from scientific research and technological transfer, the institute has also served epidemic disease prevention in livestock and aquatic species in central and highland provinces of Vietnam; conducted research and applied biotechnology in veterinary, animal husbandry, aquaculture and environmental treatment; participated in training human resources in the field of veterinary medicine, etc. The institute has cooperated with Thai Nguyen University to open 2 in-service intermediate veterinary courses for 71 people; and guided many students to complete their master's and doctoral theses with 3 having successfully defended their doctoral theses.

The institute has cooperated with several well-known universities in the USA, Belgium, France, Taiwan, Australia, Italy, etc in labor force training and production of new vaccines. It is well-equipped with modern equipment for researchers, specialization divisions and an animal disease diagnosis ward. Its international standard labs have been assigned as labs for agriculture and rural development by the Ministry of Agriculture & Rural Development. In 2016, IVRD put a modern vaccine production establishment, 2,100m2, into use, meeting the Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP-WHO).

With the target of linking research with manufacturing and business, 19 veterinary vaccines and biological products have been used and highly appreciated by farmers in all regions in the country, meeting the pandemic prevention and control; 3 vaccines have been awarded with Vietnam Golden Rice Award. The annual turnover from production and business is more than VND70 billion, contributing over VND4.1 billion to the State budget.
