Khanh Hoa Center for Disease Control, a fter 2 years of foundation, has fulfilled its duty of preventive health care and disease control and prevention, especially against COVID-19. The center has been awarded the Prime Minister’s emulation flag for significant achievements.
 
Round-the-clock service
 
On the morning of September 8, at 8a.m, five members of a disease control emergency response team of Khanh Hoa Center for Disease Control were all present at the Cam Ranh International Airport for COVID-19 testing on ship crew who were under centralized quarantine, conducting epidemiological investigation, taking samples and collecting data for reports. Then, the team came to hotels with quarantine rooms to continue with the testing work. 60km away in a centralized quarantine area, another disease control emergency response team was also busy conducting epidemiological investigation and taking samples for  COVID-19 testing from more than 250 Vietnamese citizens returning from Japan.

“Disease control emergency response teams provide round-the-clock disease control and prevention service as early diagnosis and detection of COVID19 cases can help minimize transmission and thus effectively combat the epidemic,” said Dr. Nguyen Duc Tinh, Deputy Head of 1 of the 4 disease control emergency response teams.
 
Since early 2020 in the face of unprecedented coronavirus outbreak worldwide as well as the high transmission risk into Vietnam in general and Khanh Hoa Province in particular, Khanh Hoa Center for Disease Control serving in the frontline of the fight against the pandemic has taken drastic and comprehensive measures under a motto “Fighting against the pandemic like fighting against an enemy".
 
The center has set up 4 disease control emergency response teams; coordinated with relevant units to conduct epidemiological surveillance, investigation, quarantined more than 5,000 suspected cases, taken blood of more than 10,300 people for COVID-19 testing; issued 125,700 communication products for the pandemic prevention and control; disinfected high-risk areas; organized training courses to improve disease prevention and control capacities of health workers and related agencies; promptly supplied equipment, chemicals and protective clothing to isolation and quarantine areas, hospitals, medical centers, quarantine checkpoints, etc. In addition, the center has also independently implemented COVID-19 testing since August, 2020, making the disease prevention and control more effective. 
 
Fulfilling national target programs
 
The Center for Disease Control had an honor to be awarded the Prime Minister’s emulation flag in 2019 for its outstanding achievements and 1 individual received the Prime Minister’s certificate of merit for achievements in emulation in the 2015-2020 period. The Provincial People's Committee awarded certificates of merit to 3 groups and 16 individuals for their contribution to COVID-19 prevention and control.
 
The Center for Disease Control was established in January 2019, based on merging 5 centers of Preventive Medicine; HIV/ AIDS prevention and Control; Prevention of Malaria - Parasites and Insects; Health Education Communication; and Endocrinology. The center has proactively built action plans, fulfilling its duty of implementing epidemic prevention and control activities; improving human health care and managing community health. Since the beginning of the year, dengue, hand, foot and mouth disease and measles have been put under control. No cases of emerging/ re-emerging A/H5N1, MerS CoV, fatal cholera, meningococcal disease and bubonic plague have been reported.
 
In addition, national target health programs have been synchronously deployed and achieved high efficiency. The rate of children vaccinated has reached over 95%; HIV infected people taking ARV drug treatment reached 80.7%; more than 26,500 patients with hypertension have been under management in the community; screening has been provided for more than 16,800 people at risk of diabetes; occupational disease examination for more than 8,000 people; counseling and preventive treatment for more than 2,000, etc.
 
The center has also promoted patriotic emulation campaigns and scientific research among cadres and staff to improve professional competence with several practical initiatives and scientific researches, contributing to improving health care and protection. 
 
The results are thanks to the concern, support and joint effort of local departments and agencies for the sake of the health of the community, cadres, public servants and workers. The center will continue promoting the achievements and boosting control and prevention against diseases, especially COVID-19, according to Dr. Huynh Van Dong, Director of Khanh Hoa Center for Disease Control.
