Khanh Hoa Border Defence Force has effectively expanded the plastic-free campaign with several practical models against plastic waste, contributing to environmental protection.

Several practical models

At weekend, cadres and soldiers of Ninh Phuoc Border Station, Ninh Hoa Town together with members of Ninh Phuoc Commune community action team known as a mass mobilization model joined by Ninh Phuoc Border Station, Youth Union of Van Phong Bonded Petroleum Terminal Joint Venture Co., Ltd and Ninh Phuoc Commune Women’s Association launched a clean-up operation in residential and coastal areas in the commune. Trash were picked up and sorted and bags full of trash were gathered for being taken away. Recyclable waste such as plastic bottles and cans were used as vases or decorative items; and other were put in the dustbin “trash classification - green environment” to raise funds for “VND100 house”.

To effectively implement the campaign against plastic waste, Ninh Phuoc Border Station has heightened awareness of the fight against plastic waste among its carders, soldiers, Youth Union members and young people; specifically, replacing disposable plastics with glass materials in daily life and at work, even in meetings. In addition to building the model "Waste classification - green environment", the unit has deployed many models of anti-plastic waste in particular and environmental protection in general such as: "Voluntary clean-up campaign", "Green Sunday", "Volunteer Saturday” and “Green Parade". Many activities joined by the unit, its twinned Youth Union branches and Ninh Phuoc Commune Women's Union have been effectively implemented, contributing to keeping the environment clean, raising public awareness of environmental protection in general and harmful effects of plastics in particular in the stationed area, according to Captain Vo Hien, Commissar, Vice-Chief of Ninh Phuoc Border Station.

Similar to Ninh Phuoc Border Station, all Border Defence agencies and units have proactively responded to the plastic-free campaign launched by Khanh Hoa Border Defence Force Headquarters with effective and practical models such as “Say No to plastic waste”, “Green house, Youth Union branch collects, classifies, recycles and reuses waste”, “Garbage classification – Green environment”; promoting models and campaigns such as “Volunteer Saturday”, “Green Sunday”, “Green parade”, etc in stationed areas.

Widely expanding

Over the past years, Khanh Hoa Border Defence Force Headquarters has directed agencies to launch activities to fight against plastic waste and protect environment among young people in Khanh Hoa Border Defence Force by initially promoting communication and education to raise awareness and attitude toward environmentally friendly acts among young people of the Provincial Border Defence Force; thereby, promoting the role of volunteering of cadres, Youth Union members and young people in environmental protection and climate change response; coordinating with the Party Committees, local authorities, departments, sectors and unions to propagate and mobilize locals to join effort against plastic waste in every life, meeting  specific criteria.

The anti- plastic waste campaign has expanded among Khanh Hoa Border Defence Force and proved effective. Cadres, Youth Union and young people have changed their habit of using plastics in everyday life and at work; minimized the use of disposable plastic products and plastic bags; and classified garbage for recycling. The campaign has run regularly with volunteer activities joined by the Youth Union and local residents in a bid to curb plastic waste and protect the environment, according to Captain Nhu Mai Phao, Political Commissar of Khanh Hoa Border Defence Force Headquarters.
