Soldiers take turns to pump water to ensure adequate supply of water for daily use during prolonged drought and hot days. Therefore, quarantined citizens, feeling cozy and safe, have shown their appreciation for the caring service.

Strict border checks

Along with ensuring centralized quarantine service for Vietnamese citizens returning home at the Border Training Center, the Provincial Border Defense Headquarters has directed marine stations and squadrons to coordinate closely to take drastic inspection and control measures to detect cases of failure to make declaration for quarantine; prevent illegal entry, exit, import and export by sea; particularly, conduct inspections of off-shore fishing vessels, especially those operating in the waters of Paracel Islands and northern provinces; check the entrance and exit at border stations to avoid illegal entry and exit. Besides, the provincial border guards have also promoted propaganda to raise fishermen’s awareness of responsibility to take COVID-19 pandemic prevention measures; control traffic flows at ports to prevent crowding; request captains and crews to report their work schedules and have body temperature checked, wear medical masks to protect their health and the community; and contain the spread of the disease.

“The provincial border forces have strictly followed the instructions of the Prime Minister, the Ministry of Defense and the High Command of Border Guard on COVID-19 control and prevention in the province. From the beginning, the Provincial Party Committee and Command of the Provincial Border Guard have given direction on epidemiological prevention to protect soldiers’ health as well as promote propaganda to ask fishermen to strictly comply with the health sector’s recommendations against the pandemic. Especially, we have been serving the quarantine of Vietnamese citizens from abroad at the Border Training Center; strengthening inspection and control on sea border routes in order to promptly detect cases of illegal entry and failure to follow quarantine declaration orders, contributing to improving the disease prevention and control,” said Colonel Tran Quoc Toan, Commander of the Provincial Border Defense Headquarters.
