Nha Trang City General Hospital is one of main projects to mark the 18th Khanh Hoa Provincial Communist Party Congress. Local authorities and related agencies have overcome difficulties to complete final steps for the hospital construction expected to start in September.

Nha Trang City General Hospital located in My Gia Urban Area is the second ranking hospital with 200 beds. The project is invested by the Department of Health with a total funding for construction and medical equipment of over VND355 billion from the State budget and from the transfer of land use rights of medical facilities in Nha Trang City. The hospital is expected to be completed and put into operation in 2023.

Nha Trang City General Hospital has blocks of polyclinic and outpatient treatment; inpatient treatment (200 beds); subclinical techniques; administration; logistics and engineering; general services; and other auxiliary work. The block of inpatient treatment includes Internal Medicine, Traditional Medicine; Surgery, Obstetrics, Pediatrics, Ophthalmology, Otorhinolaryngology, Odonto Stomatology, Infectious Diseases and Emergency. Perspective of Nha Trang City General Hospital.

When put into operation, Nha Trang City General Hospital is expected to meet the needs of medical treatment and improve health care for city residents; provide better working environment and remuneration to retain skilled doctors; reduce pressure on higher levels of care; and open more practice opportunities for medical staff inside and outside the province.

According to Dr. Le Phan, Director of Nha Trang City Medical Center, Nha Trang City has 5 general clinics with 30 beds serving medical check-up and treatment for more than 390,000 people. The clinics with insufficient infrastructures only meet primary heath care for common and mild diseases. Therefore, the clinics find it difficult to retain skilled specialists, resulting in limited capacity. Many patients have to be transferred to a higher level of care, which increases overload at Khanh Hoa General Hospital and causes burden on health insurance funding. Nha Trang City General Hospital is expected to help tackle the problems.

To ensure sufficient human resources for the hospital, the Department of Health has recently built a project to consolidate the organization and operation of the City Medical Center, including workforce planning for the hospital. In the period 2020 - 2022, when Nha Trang City General Hospital is invested based on the center's existing physicians. The Department of Health will focus on specialized training, especially surgical and obstetric specialties, facilitating the staff to study, work and exchange experience at Khanh Hoa Provincial General Hospital to get ready for the operation of Nha Trang City General Hospital. The staff recruitment will continue in accordance with the development of the hospital in the following years.

At present, Nha Trang City Medical Center has 50 doctors and there will be 8 more doctors from corporate training in 2022. 40 doctors will work at Nha Trang City General Hospital and the others will be at medical stations in communes and wards. Specialized training will be provided for at least 4 surgeons and 4 physicians of obstetrics, testing and imaging diagnosis; and training on order for 6 surgeons, obstetrics, anesthesiology and recovery. With the physician preparedness and modern medical equipment, Nha Trang General Hospital will meet the health care for residents in Nha Trang City, according to Dr. Bui Xuan Minh, Director of the Department of Health.
