After 1 month of assessment, Khanh Hoa Province has begun to provide financial assistance for employers impacted by COVID-19. The assistance payment is due to finish by July 31.
 
Happy to receive assistance
 
Receiving VND1 million, Nguyen Ngoc Thuan, a motorcycle taxi driver in the residential quarter 6, Phuong Son Ward says, “During the epidemic and social distancing, I stopped working for more than 2 months and had no income. This amount partly helps relive my family’s financial hardship”. 
 
Nguyen Thi Hoa (residential quarter No. 7, Phuong Son ward) who earns her living from collecting scrap metal is also very happy to receive the grant. “I can not get employed because of my old age, especially during the pandemic. I have no work to get income for more than 1 month, so my life was very difficult. For me, this grant is very valuable,” she says.

The Department of Labor, War Invalids & Social Affairs coordinated with the districts and towns to assess and submit applications for more than VND12.8 billion in support of 12,680 people to the provincial People's Committee for consideration and approval before July 21. The provincial People's Committee has approved more than VND1.3 billion assisstance for 1,296 people, including 22 employees whose labor contracts are temporarily suspended or who have to take unpaid leave (a grant of VND1.8 million/ person); 64 individual business households with a revenue under VND100 million (VND1 million/ household); 21 employees who lose jobs but are not eligible for unemployment allowance  (VND1 million/ person); 1,189 employees without work or losing jobs (VND1 million/ person). All of the above people will receive support for 1 month, April, according to the leader of the Department of Labor, War Invalids & Social Affairs.
 
Assessment process acceleration required
 
Phuong Son Ward has focused on checking, preparing and assessing documents for employees with 210 employees’ dossiers already submitted for approval. The ward has mobilized the participation of Party cells, mass organizations in the assessment process and hold meetings for discussion to assure accuracy, publicity and transparency. Up to now, 84 people have received support of VND1 million/ person, according to Phan Thi Nhu Thuy, Chairperson of Phuong Son Ward People's Committee. 
 
Nha Trang City has carefully assessed, double-checked and submitted 3,030 dossiers for approval. Up to now, the Provincial People's Committee has approved grants for 424 people, says a representative of Nha Trang City Division of Labor, War Invalids & Social Affairs.
 
The financial assistance scheme is required to be implemented within a short time. The assessment process has been carefully and thoroughly made to assure the Government assistance reaches intended beneficiaries who are vulnerable populations. Applications have been basically completed and submitted to local authorities for assessment and to Khanh Hoa People’s Committee for approval. The assistance payment is due to finish by July 31, according to Vo Binh Tan, Deputy Director of Khanh Hoa provincial Department of Labor, War Invalids & Social Affairs.
