Le Thi Ngoc Thuy, Director of Truong Sa Rear Women’s Club, is one of the enthusiastic volunteers. She used to work as a seamstress. Therefore, when Cam Nghia Ward Women’s Association launched the volunteering campaign, she was eager to buy materials and started to sew face masks and give them for free. She spends her spare time sewing 20-30 face masks a day, nearly 200 in total so far.

After sewing, she washes and puts the face masks neatly in bags and gives them to those in need. “I think my work is helpful as it can protect families and community to prevent the spread of the disease. Sometimes I stay up until 1am to finish the sewing. I feel tired but very happy. I will do the work until there is no more need.”

11 women have joined the volunteering launched by the Ward Women’s Association. They have sought cloth donation and then taken sewing processes, including measuring, marking, cutting, assembling and finishing.

Tran My Lan Duyen, Nghia Loc Quarter says, “I am willing to sew homemade face masks. What I have done is not much but I hope it will help provide a barrier that is much needed to prevent the spread of COVID-19 and raise public awareness of protecting health for the safety of all."

Reportedly, volunteers of the ward Women’s association have made nearly 1,000 face masks. Finished products are washed and soaked in salt water to remove germs. The cloth face masks are delivered to those in need. Each person may receive 2-3 masks. “In the coming tome, we will continue ramping up efforts of all locals, including sewers and members to join hands to help combating COVID-19,” adds Nguyen Thi Ca.

Reportedly, apart from sewing and delivering homemade face masks, Cam Nghia Ward Women’s Association has boosted propaganda on disease control and personal protective measures, including wearing face masks, avoiding large crowds, frequently washing hands with soap or sanitizers; keeping the environment clean, contributing to raising public awareness of protecting health of themselves, their families and the community in a fight against the COVID-19 outbreak.
