Besides national maritime border sovereignty protection, Khanh Hoa Border Guard has boosted support activities to help residents living in border areas to improve living standards and promote economic well-being. Especially, thanks to the  contribution of  military cadres and soldiers and other benefactors, Khanh Hoa Border Guard has built many houses for the poor and beneficiaries of social welfare.

Home construction for those in need

In mid-November, a mission of Khanh Hoa Border Defense Force Headquarters and Cam Hai Dong Border Station held a house handover ceremony for Huynh Thi Do, Yen Hoa 1 Residential Quarter, Cam Duc Town, Cam Lam District. The house construction was worth more than VND780 million funded by benefactors. The new house is a big dream of the family who had to live in a dilapidated house for several years.

“My old house was badly damaged and decrepit after tens of years without any repairs. Military staff used to help us to reinforce the house against heavy rains and storms. Khanh Hoa Border Guard has provided a housing grant and offered 1 cabinet, 1 bed and 1 television. We are so happy and grateful. Thanks to the support, my family will spend the coming New Year in a new house. From now on, we are no longer worried about house collapse whenever a rainy and stormy season comes,” says Huynh Thi Do.

In addition, Khanh Hoa Border Guard has just handed 3 houses over to beneficiaries of social welfare and those in housing needs. Each house, 60m2, has a construction cost of VND50-220 million, including VND50 million donated and raised by Khanh Hoa Border Guard. The new houses built and completed ahead of the Lunar New Year have brought great happiness. “My old house was destroyed in a fire. I could not afford to build a new one, so I put up a tent, using metal sheets canvas and lived there. Thanks to the concern and support of organizations, especially Khanh Hoa Border Guard, we have a new house to live in. We are so happy,” says 83-year-old Nguyen Thi Tau, Xuan Tu 1 Village, Van Hung Commune.

Continued support for the needy

Under the National Campaign on Joining Hands for the Poor, No One Left Behind, thanks to the donation of staff and many other benefactors, Khanh Hoa Border Guard has built 236 houses for the needy for 10 years. Since the beginning of this year, 15 houses have been constructed. Moreover, Khanh Hoa Border Guard has made effort in providing assistance for the locals to stabilize life and promote economic well-being through practical activities, namely “Home construction for the poor in border areas”, “Khanh Hoa Border Guard joining hands to promote new rural construction”, “Student financial aid program”, etc worth billions of dongs.

Colonel Nguyen Ngai Ha, a political commissar of Khanh Hoa Border Defense Force Headquarters says the house construction support is so meaningful, showing the sincere military-civilian relationship, contributing to poverty alleviation and socio-economic development in border areas. Besides social activities, Khanh Hoa Border Defense Force Headquarters will continue effort in seeking donations to those in need, empowering them to improve their living standards and lift themselves out of poverty sustainably.
