Khanh Hoa Journalists’ Association in cooperation with Nguoi Lam Bao’s Magazine (Vietnam Journalists’ Association) and Nha Trang – Khanh Hoa Tourism Association held the 2019 sixth Khanh Hoa Press Conference themed journalism’s role in the development of tourism, economics, culture and society in Khanh Hoa Province in the integration period on May 8. 
 
Doan Minh Long, Member of the Executive Committee of Vietnam Journalists’ Association, Chairman of Khanh Hoa Journalists’ Association says the conference was in response to the National Tourism Year 2019 and Nha Trang – Khanh Hoa Sea Festival. In Vietnam tourism development strategy, Khanh Hoa Province was defined by the Government to be one of the national tourism centers with great potentials that need to be promoted. The cooperation with other regions and zones are required to be strengthened. The local tourism strives to basically become the spearhead economy with professionalism; relatively synchronous and modern infrastructures; and diversified, high quality tourism products imbrued with national cultural identity.
 
Over the past time, remarkable development in tourism has been seen in Khanh Hoa, contributing to the socio-economic growth of the locality in particular and Vietnam tourism industry in general, featuring the role of journalism in promoting tourism and socio-economic development. Therefore, this conference was an opportunity to review what journalism had done for more effective cooperation and performance in the future.
 
It can be said that Nha Trang - Khanh Hoa tourism is believed to have not been developed to its full potential. Therefore, the Provincial Party Committee issued the Action Program No. 14 dated July 24, 2017; and the Provincial People's Committee issued Decision No. 480 on February 9, 2016 on the plan to implement the Action Program. Accordingly, in tourism development strategy till 2020, Khanh Hoa strives to attract 8.5 million visitors, including 3.5 million international arrivals with the total revenue from tourists reaching over VND70,000 billion. The province is expected to have over 40,000 hotel rooms, of which 3 to 5 star standard rooms account for 70%. Tourism activities will create jobs for over 50,000 people. On that basis, by 2030, all the above targets will continue double compared with the year 2020.
 
With the above targets, the year 2019 is seen as an important transitional year with new opportunities and challenges for the spearhead tourism economy. Especially, this year, Khanh Hoa has been chosen to host events of the National Tourism Year with the highlight of Nha Trang – Khanh Hoa Sea Festival. Particularly, press agencies have also showed their role in providing support, promoting tourism events and the destination of Nha Trang, Khanh Hoa.
 
The conference focused on such issues as tourism, socio-economics, culture communications; impacts of journalism in the sectors of tourism, culture and society; the role of media in sustainable tourism growth in Khanh Hoa in the international integration process; current situation of journalism in tourism, economics, culture, society in Khanh Hoa; mistakes in journalistic practice and impacts; social responsibilities and journalists’ ethical qualities, etc. Presentations on basic methods to improve information quality and develop tourism, culture, economics, society, etc were also made at the conference.
