Khanh Hoa Traffic Safety Board has instructed local relevant departments and communities to take measures to assure traffic safety during the holiday on April 30 and May 1 known as Vietnam Reunification Day and International Workers' Day 2019.

Nguyen Trong Hien, Chef of Khanh Hoa Traffic Safety Board says traffic safety boost is focused during the 5-day holiday. The Traffic Safety Board has sent documents to departments, agencies and communities to take measures to assure traffic safety, boosting traffic safety propaganda to raise public awareness of traffic rules to prevent accidents caused by speeding; drunk driving, overloaded vehicles, distracted driving especially when crossing railroad tracks; failure to wear motorcycle helmets when riding on motorbikes, failure to wear lifejackets on ships, etc.

Relevant departments and agencies are required to build plans to meet the travel demand expected to increase and boost inspection and maintain patrols to assure traffic safety during the holiday.

Khanh Hoa Traffic Safety Board has also asked Khanh Hoa Department of Transportation to boost inspection and Khanh Hoa Public Security to enhance patrols to prevent accident-related risk behaviors; increase technical safety inspection of vehicles at stations and ports and prevent driving in unqualified health conditions, without driving licenses, violating traffic safety rules, etc.

The top target of maintaining traffic safety is to minimize accidents and jams in major sites. Traffic police and traffic inspectors are required to closely cooperate and build specific traffic control plans with strict punishment given to traffic rule offenders. Moreover, localities and relevant agencies are required be equipped with sufficient rescue facilities for emergency use.

In high-risk locations in terms of traffic crash and jam, especially in Nha Trang City, local authorities are to boost the inspection and punishment on road space encroachment; and accelerate the repair and replacement of traffic signals on roads and waterways.

It is reported that most accidents have been caused by distracted driving. Especially, getting behind the wheel after consuming alcohol is extremely dangerous. Drivers should be cautious and attentive while driving to remain safe.
