A project on smart school parking system has been successfully developed by 2 students of Le Quy Don Gifted School, Nha Trang City after a long time learning and doing research. The model is not as simple as it looks.

Huynh Tran Long and Doan Viet Bach, an 11th-grader and a 12-grader major in Math have dedicated themselves to the project on smart parking at school. They have spent time doing survey on parking at some schools in Nha Trang City such as Nguyen Van Troi High School, Thai Nguyen Junior High School, Nguyen Hien Junior High School, etc. The project aims to innovate the present used parking management by enhancing security for better parking management. After several trials, they have sucessfully designed an electronic controller system, allowing consolidated identification for parked vehicles such as bikes, electric bikes, electric motorcycles, scooters, their owners and facilitating parking management.

The smart parking system at school was 1 of the 3 provincial projects winning the fourth prize in the National Scientific & Technical Contest for high school students, the southern region, school year 2018 - 2019. The project also received the first prize by Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology & Education; the excellence prize by Hanoi University of Education Publishing House and Khanh Hoa University; and the excellence prize by Nguyen Hoang Education Group.

“We have our own approach to the parking system research by utilizing fingerprint biometric sensors which are still not used in current parking lots, to assure better security and management. The system is able to manage the number of vehicles and parking space for efficient management of parking,” says Huynh Tran Long.

To be applied into reality, the project needs funding as well as components with efficient functions as mentioned. If not, a solution for substitutes is required, according to Long. “If we have a chance to further develop the project, we will think of replacing the fingerprint identification with URF code for information security. Besides, a camera will be attached to improve safety and security,” adds Doan Viet Bach. Both of them hope to get assistance for further development of the project.

“During the development of the project, the students and I have tested the system with some classes. Most of the students have abilities to possess advanced technologies so the system is quite feasible. The new campus of Le Quy Don Gifted School is large so it is convenient to implement the project. The system has shown the students’ great effort and the prizes are seen as a good start for their research. I hope they can make further scientific research and the project will be applied in reality in the near future,” says Teacher Khanh Thanh Tin.
