Van Ninh District People’s Committee, Khanh Hoa Province has just given approval to the construction of a road and an embankment from Huyen Bridge to the rail bridge, Van Gia Town to create landscape as well as improve traffic infrastructures and development land fund use.

For many years, landslide and erosion have become a serious problem along Cha La River with houses inundated and farm land washed away in rainy seasons. Therefore, Van Ninh District People’s Committee has just approved the construction of a road and an embankment running from Huyen Bridge to the Rail Bridge. Accordingly, the project is adjacent to the north-south rail bridge to the northwest and Nguyen Hue Road to the south-east at Huyen Bridge. The road and embankment are nearly 470m long with a 13m red-line boundary, 7m road surface and 6m pavements. The project has a total capital of VND23 billion, including more than VND15 billion for construction.

According to the leader of the District Management Board of Construction Projects, the road passes pond areas, so careful survey and calculation are required. Specifically, to prevent landslides and erosion, precast concrete sheets and geotextile fabric are used to separate, filter and reinforce; foundations are built along precast concrete taluses with concrete tie beams and reinforced crushed stones inside and outside the foundations.

Box culverts will be installed from the National Road 1, connected to the Road 3 through ponds to allow rainwater to flow to Cha La River. Trees will be planted and 15 LED pillars will be installed on the both sides of the road.

Nguyen Phuong Phai, Chief of the District's Finance & Planning Department says the road project along Cha La River is very essential. However, due to local limited budget and high investment cost, only 1 section of the road will be built to help prevent landslides and the impact of erosion; and protect the environment and people living along Cha La River.

In addition, the new road will facilitate the effective use of the land fund along Cha La River in Van Gia Town, create landscape and improve urban transport infrastructures. The project is scheduled to begin in 2019 and the project engineering design procedures have been completed.

The bidding is expected to finish by the end of this year. Some 10 families will be affected by the project. The acquisition of the land which is mostly for gardening is approved by the affected. The site clearance compensation is more than VND2.5 billion. The project is funded by the provincial budget for the urban development programs and the local budget.
