Khanh Hoa Labor Confederation has handed new houses over to the disadvantaged in housing need in Khanh Hoa Province, bringing a great joy to many families, especially when the Lunar New Year is approaching.

This year is a great time for the family of Pi Nang Ni Co, a member of Khanh Thuong Commune Trade Union, Khanh Vinh District. His worn-down house where his family of 3 members used to live for several years has been replaced by a new one, 55m2, thanks to the VND50 million grant from the Khanh Hoa Trade Union’s Housing Funding.

“We surely couldn't afford to build a new house without the financial support of the Trade Union. We are glad that we are going to spend the Lunar New Year in such a new house,” says Pi Nang Ni Co.

Pi Nang Thi Nguyet, a member of Anh Dao Nursery School’s Trade Union, Son Thai Commune, Khanh Vinh District, is so happy with the new house which is a long time dream of her 4-member family with 2 children. “We used to live in a thatched cottage for 15 years. We couldn’t afford a new house. Khanh Hoa Trade Union offered our family a VND50 million grant. I am so pleased and grateful to the support of the provincial Trade Union,” she says.

The family of Nguyen Thi Ngoc Suong, a member of Cam Hiep Nam Commune Trade Union, Cam Lam District also got the joy of spending the festive season in a safe house. Her family with an 11-year-old child used to rent a room to live in for over the past 12 years. Her monthly salary is more than VND2.5 million and her husband earns VND2 million a month from working for hire. Their earning is just enough for their daily  basic needs. They used their wedding gift cash to buy a plot but they could not afford to build a house. Their dream has come true thanks to the VND50 million grant of the provincial Trade Union together with the building material offer of their neighbors and relatives. “We feel so happy to have such a new safe house. The new home is such a great relief and encouragement to all of us,” she says.

Besides, 25 other Trade Union members have been provided financial support to build houses ahead of the Lunar New Year holiday. Bui Thanh Binh, Vice-Chairman of Khanh Hoa Labor Confederation says the Housing Fund program has received much back-up and support of Trade Union members and laborers in Khanh Hoa. To promote the program effectiveness, Khanh Hoa Trade Union has directed and guided its affiliations at all levels to continue with the eligibility assessment to reach more those in need.

In the time to come, Khanh Hoa Trade Union will keep providing financial support for house repair and construction for 40-50 members and laborers. At present, many workers are still in housing need. Some are poor and landless. More assistance is required to further contribute to the poverty alleviation effort.
