With the great passion for scientific research, two students named Vo Le Mai Anh and Nguyen Thanh Hoang, Class 10C8, iSchool Nha Trang, working under the guidance and support of teachers, have successfully designed a handicapped remote control for electric appliances

The product is designed to assist people with disability to remotely control, turn on and off home electric devices as well as monitor the current status of the appliances. The disabled experience great difficulties in daily life so the students hope to help make the life easier and more comfortable.

The product solution is the use of a server which allows users to directly connect to the operation box via Wi-Fi. Therefore, the operation system is quite simple and a proxy server is not needed. However, some other techniques are required to remotely control home appliances when the user is away. After a year of research, Mai Anh and Thanh Hoang have finished their project with a product which contains an operation box, a web server working as connectivity to the Android phone via the Internet and a mobile app for remote control and management of electric devices.

Vo Le Mai Anh and Nguyen Thanh Hoang present features of the remote control for electric devices.

The product is quite competitive on the market due to its conveniences with an appealing design, a small size, a low price and wider range of remote control applications. The product can be developed in a smart home app. It can be used to control unlimited home electric devices, says Vo Duy Phuong, a project instructor.

Reportedly, the project won the second prize in the 2018 - 2019 Khanh Hoa Provincial Technical Contest for High School Students and it was among 10 excellent projects advanced to the final of the National Business Start-Up Day for Students held by the Ministry of Education & Training in December 2018.

The students together with other group members have developed the product to become a commercial success. The group is doing further research to make the product more efficient, starting with integrating it with a voice-operated control.

The product is invested based on the information technology strength of the school. The students have applied the knowledge they have learned into the product designed to make life easier for the disabled. At present, the school education program includes assisting students to turn their creative ideas into reality through product marketing, for example, to bring their products to customers. The school will continue providing opportunities and support to inspire students’ research interest to promote new ideas and projects to create useful products for the community, says Pham Huu Binh, Principal of iSchool Nha Trang.
