Khanh Hoa Department of Transport says the funding for Nguyen Hue provincial road repair, Van Ninh District, has been allocated. The construction is expected to be completed at the end of the year.

Nguyen Hue provincial road, 19km, runs through Van Gia Town and the 5 communes of Van Thang, Van Khanh, Van Long, Van Phuoc and Van Tho. Heavy traffic, especially, high-capacity vehicles have caused much damage to the road. The leader of Khanh Hoa of Department of Transport says over several years of use, the road is damaged with many potholes. Besides, the road is narrow, only 3.5m wide, causing high crash risks. The road surface and sewerage condition is in a poor condition.

In early July, Khanh Hoa Department of Transport approved a technical and economic report of adjusted investment in the construction and repair of Nguyen Hue provincial road. Accordingly, in late 2017, the approved construction cost estimated at more than VND13 billion was adjusted down to more than VND12.7 billion due to some changes made to the technical and economic report to suit the actual construction and installation value. The road will be repaired, upgraded and widened from 3.5m to 5.5m, asphalted with rubble and crushed stones to assure traffic safety.

Reportedly, the repair work is undertaken with pothole patching as a temporary solution to facilitate travel and assure road safety as the road is in the planning of Van Phong Economic Zone. The road is designed to be the plain street, level 3 with 26m-wide road-bed and 12m road surface.

In 2013, Khanh Hoa People’s Committee approved in principle that Van Phong Economic Zone would project on improving and upgrading the road with an estimated cost of VND700 billion. However, the project funding has not been provided. The management board of Van Phong Economic Zone has reported the problem to Khanh Hoa People’s Committee and then VND10 billion funding has been approved to start the road repair project in 2017. However, the funding allocation has not been determined. Therefore, Khanh Hoa Department of Transport has provided Khanh Hoa People’s Committee consultancy on using the road maintenance fund to repair the road in 2018.

Khanh Hoa Department of Transport has submitted a contractor selection result for approval and made procedures for signing construction and supervision contracts. Simultaneously, the department has coordinated with the consultant on the site handover to the contractor. The contractor has prepared equipment and tools for the construction. The project is scheduled to be completed and put into operation at the end of this year to facilitate travel and improve traffic safety, says Nguyen Van Truc, Director of the Management Board of Rural Traffic, Khanh Hoa Department of Transport.
