A program named “Vietnam coast guard standing by fishermen” was organized by Flotilla 302 of the Command of Coast Guard Region 3 in Ninh Van Commune, Ninh Hoa Town, Khanh Hoa Province on May 24. The event contributed to strengthening the solidarity between soldiers and local people.


The program is one of meaningful activities specifically defined in Vietnam coast guard’s mass mobilization tasks. The program is designed to contribute to boosting socio-economic development in island communes and strengthening the solidarity between soldiers and local people; promoting patriotism, raising public awareness of responsibility to protect the national sovereignty over Vietnam’s sea and islands, says Ho Van Tuong, a commissar, Deputy Chief of Flotilla 302.


On the occasion, Ninh Van District People’s Committee and Flotilla 302 signed a partnership agreement; propagandized law to fishermen, provided information about the foundation and development of Vietnam coast guard; outstanding individuals in protecting national security and resources, etc. Besides, Vietnam coast guard  held social security programs to help social welfare beneficiaries and the disadvantaged. They offered 30 gifts to social welfare beneficiaries and disadvantaged families and students; gifts to 2 needy fishermen’s families; scholarships to excellent students, 100 national flags, 30 life jackets, 10 medical kits to fishermen; provided anti-drowning training and so on.

Particularly, a drawing contest on Vietnam's sea and islands was held for students from Nguyen Phan Vinh Junior High School and Ninh Van Primary School to promote young generations' patriotism and awareness of the protection of national sovereignty over the national sea and islands.


In addition, Coast Guard Region 3 in cooperation with  Khanh Hoa Young Doctors' Association gave free medical check-ups to more than 200 locals, and a musical and cultural exchange program in order to strengthen soldiers and local people’s solidarity. The Youth Union members and young people of Coast Guard Region 3 and the commune joined a clean-up effort at the memorial area of the ship coded C235; steles of  heroes and martyrs in Ninh Van Commune; on intercommune roads and on the beach.


Ninh Van is a disadvantaged community with more than 50% of the population living on fishing. Therefore, the program "Vietnam coast guard standing by fishermen" meant a great deal that it provided material and spiritual support; knowledge about Vietnam’s sea and islands; raised public awareness of the responsibility to protect the national sovereignty over the sea and islands, according to Tra Van Hai, Secretary of the Party Committee, Chairman of Ninh Van Commune People’s Council.

Coast Guard regularly propagandize the law and policies; and maintained supervisory patrol especially in offshore and bordering waters, according to Colonel Do Hong Do, political commissar of the Command of Coast Guard Region 3. The Flotilla plans to continue mobilizing the donation of officials and soldiers as well as other recourses to help social welfare beneficiaries and disadvantaged fishermen in coastal and island communes in Khanh Hoa Province.
