Summer fun for children

Various sports, gym, life skills, art and English communication classes are going to be held by Khanh Hoa Children’s House and Nha Trang Culture & Sports Center to keep kids busy having fun during the long days of their summer vacation.


Since early May 2017 when the school time was about to end, many parents began searching for summer courses and activities for their children. Nguyen Thu Tra, Phuong Sai Ward, Nha Trang City registered for a karatedo class for her 7-year-old son because he is interested in martial art. She hopes that when attending the class, her son can meet many new friends with the same passion and the martial art can also help him promote his health and learn necessary self-defense skills. Vo Thi Phuong, Vinh Hai Ward, registered for a swimming class for her 7-year-old daughter at Telecommunications University. “I hope my daughter can have basic water skills and become more confident in extracurricular water activities even without her parents and teachers,” she says.


Preparations for summer courses have been made early in terms of infrastructures and human resources. English communication, music, writing, sports (basketball, badminton, marital art, etc), gym, life skills, art are scheduled to open all weekdays. Since early May, Khanh Hoa Children’s House has focused on investment and renovation in infrastructures to assure sufficient facilities and teaching staff to get ready for kids’ amusement activities and skill practice in summer. More interesting activities are expected to give kids more choices to get active and fun during the summer time. Specifically, besides traditional courses, many new classes will open such as an English communication class with native speakers; a TOEIC class for ninth-graders and above; and a self-defense class.

Apart from skill practice and entertainment classes, the Directorate Board of Khanh Hoa Children’s House plans to install physical exercise and sport facilities for kids free of charge, build a 3D photo room for kids to develop their passion for photograph this summer. Nha Trang Sports & Physical Training Center will open many courses on basketball, chess, football, table tennis, etc for children and teenagers in Nha Trang City. The classes scheduled to start in early June are open for registration now.

Besides, under Nha Trang people’s Committee’s anti-drowning scheme, this summer, the center continues its cooperation with Yet Kieu swimming pools to open 4 swimming classes for 100 children. The fee is VND500,000/person. Disadvantaged children benefit from fee exemption or discount, according to Tran Tung Han, Vice-Director of Nha Trang Sports and Physical Training Center.

Khanh Hoa Children’s House has just held a closing ceremony for the 129th and 130th courses in 2016-2017 school year. Accordingly, more than 2,500 children studied 13 subjects, including English language, music, writing, marital art and aerobics. 35% of the students were graded excellent and 48-51% graded good. Outstanding awards included a consolation prize in the environmental drawing contest held by the Central Comrade Association; a silver medal, 2 bronze medals and 2 consolation awards in the Khanh Hoa Drawing Contest. 12 students attended the National Taekwondo Competition and won 3 bronze medals. 90 students were awarded for excellent results in study and practice.
