The 2017 “Semester in army” program held by Khanh Hoa Youth Union and Khanh Hoa Military Headquarters for the fourth time is scheduled to run on June 9-18.
The course is open to teenagers aged between 11 and 17. The attendees will have full-time training at the Battalion 460, Regiment 974, Khanh Hoa Military Headquarters stationed in Dien Khanh District. The 10-day military program includes military training for new military recruits, life skills training and social work. The military training includes basic military discipline, tactics, personal hygiene, regular physical training, marching, orientation in the jungle, survival techniques, environmental protection activities, etc.
This year, besides providing first aid, survival skills, etc, the program also includes food safety introduction, meal preparation, hands-on farming experiences and child sexual abuse prevention. The carefully designed program is expected to satisfy parental expectation. In spite of some new curricula, the fee still remains unchanged, VND3.5 million/person. The cost covers uniforms, personal items, daily and social activities.
The training program has received satisfactory feedback from former participants and their parents as it has provided a dynamic environment for teenagers to have fun as well as develop life skills. Preferential policies are applied for disadvantaged beneficiaries of social welfare, professional soldiers’ and officers’ families, national defense staff of Khanh Hoa Military Headquarters and Youth Union officials.
The Standing Committee of Khanh Hoa Youth Union has given direction to relevant agencies to prepare the program in cooperation with Khanh Hoa Military Headquarters. Besides, Khanh Hoa Youth Union has announced the course via mass media and to all Youth Union affiliations. Excellent trainers and coordinators have been selected to accompany participants all through the program. In addition, Khanh Hoa Youth Union has assigned its staff to directly join the program organization and management, according to Nguyen Van Nhuan, Secretary of Khanh Hoa Provincial Youth Union.
