Khanh Hoa General Hospital has worked with Cho Ray Hospital (Ho Chi Minh City) to review the 1st stage and implement the 2nd stage of the satellite hospital project.

Khanh Hoa General Hospital has become a satellite hospital of 3 major hospitals in Ho Chi Minh City under the Ministry of Health’s satellite hospital project since the first stage, 2013-2015. Specifically, open-heart surgery techniques have been transferred by Cho Ray Hospital; cancer treatment technical packages by Oncology Hospital; and some trauma and orthopedics technical packages by Trauma Orthopedics Hospital. Khanh Hoa General Hospital has taken good advantage of existing equipment and linked with other institutions to get more devices for the above technical packages.

In the first stage, Khanh Hoa General Hospital received and successfully applied the open-heart surgery technique, orthopaedic surgery and cancer treatment packages. Patients at hospital increased, especially at the Oncology Department with 100 beds, up from 70 beds to meet the increasing treatment demand. Khanh Hoa General Hospital was awarded a certificate of merit by the Ministry of Health in late 2015 for its fulfillment of 2013-2015 first stage of the satellite hospital project.

The directorate of Khanh Hoa General Hospital has worked with Cho Ray Hospital on the implementation of the 2nd stage of the satellite hospital project (2016-2020). Accordingly, the directorate of Cho Ray Hospital has agreed on the transfer in 3 specialties with 6 technical packages in open-heart surgery, intervention cardiology, liver tumor treatment, neurological surgery; hepatic, pancreatic and biliary surgery; and  gastrointestinal surgery.
The second stage is scheduled to begin in May. Cho Ray Hospital will send experts to Khanh Hoa General Hospital to transfer techniques and Khanh Hoa General Hospital will send physicians to Cho Ray Hospital to study.

The existing equipment at Khanh Hoa General Hospital has basically met the requirement of the technical packages. However, to further facilitate technical transfer, Khanh Hoa General Hospital has been equipped with some more modern equipment such as MRI C-arm, colored ultrasound scanners, portable ultrasound scanners, operating tables and lamps.

Khanh Hoa General Hospital has made a plan on asking approval from Khanh Hoa Department of Health to be equipped with machinery in the treatment of brain tumors, ultrasonic coagulation and cutting machines; liver tumor ablation machines, anesthesia machines, breathing machines, sterilizers, etc; and increase bed capacity with 30 additional beds in the Oncology Department; and more beds at the 12-storey inpatient ward to serve more patients. Regarding human resources, Khanh Hoa General Hospital will maintain a reasonable balance between staff working and attending professional development training classes, says Nguyen Van Xang, Director of Khanh Hoa General Hospital.
