After many years of research and manufacturing, Vinashin High-Tech Investment & Development Joint Stock Company tested its autonomous submersible named Hoa Binh (Peace) at Cam Ranh Shipyard in Cam Ranh City, Khanh Hoa Province, on September 21.

The ship, 6.63 meters in length and 2.74 meters in height, is able to run at a speed of 4.5 nautical miles per hour, dive for 24 hours at a depth of 50 meters and carry four crew members.

It is capable of contacting the mainland or other ships at a distance of around 1 kilometer through radio communication systems.

The first made-in-Vietnam small-sized submersible was manufactured at the order of the Ministry of Science and Technology, at a cost of more than VND25.5 billion, including VND2.36 billion funded by the State budget.

Minister of Science & Technology Nguyen Quan participated in the test. He highlighted the feasibility and advantages of the newly-tested ship, adding that he had watched the ship manufacturing process from the outset and he was fully confident in the ability of Vietnamese technical staff.

The ship qualified the testing requirement, according to Bui Xuan Dung, Deputy Director of Vinashin High-Tech Investment & Development Joint Stock Company.

After its successful test run, the submersible will be given another test under the supervision of the German Registration Agency. This is the final step for technical safety certification. Besides, the ship will also follow the registration step of examination for a State-level project.

Minister Nguyen Quan hopes ships built later can be more modern and versatile to be used for diving tours, rig maintenance, ocean exploration, etc. The initial success has opened up a new direction for the local submersible building industry.
