School uniform market in Nha Trang has restarted as the Covid-19 epidemic situation is gradually controlled.

Stable prices

After Nha Trang eased the social distance in "green areas", some shops selling clothes and school uniforms have reopened and complied with epidemic prevention and control regulations. Son Anh shop (in Thai Nguyen street, Phuoc Tan ward) stretches the rope outside and antiseptic tools as well as papers and pens for customers to write down their requests and then the shop owner takes out uniforms for customers to choose styles and sizes. Customers can also write their orders and the shop will deliver goods to their home. Similarly, Phuong The school uniform shop (in Ngo Gia Tu street, Phuoc Tien ward) arranges staff outside to ask customers to keep distance, displays samples for customers to choose styles and then takes out the goods according to the required sizes. A customer named Nguyen My Linh (Le Hong Phong Street, Phuoc Hai Ward) said: “This shop has full uniforms for all classes. I bought a uniform dress for my daughter in grade 3 at 127,000 VND.”

Supermarkets and online sales systems are also introducing a lot of uniforms with the same prices as last year. Some supermarkets also offer discounts. Tran Thi Bao Tram, leader of the fashion department of Co.opmart Nha Trang, said that the supermarket has enough pants, shirts, dresses, skirts, etc. of many different brands. Supermarkets accept online orders via Zalo and Facebook and offer 20-25%/product discount for school uniform. For example, uniform dresses are reduced from 180,000 - 250,000 VND/piece to about 140,000-190,000 VND/piece. The supermarket also supports exchange and return goods if customers are not satisfied.

Preliminary survey showed that school uniform ranged from 180,000 to 350,000 VND/set; primary school uniform dress is about 80,000-145,000 VND/piece; and exercise uniforms are about 80,000 VND/set.

Parents who like to have uniforms sewed for their children can buy fabric to sent to tailors. The owner of Van Oanh fabric shop (in Le Hong Phong street) said that the shop has enough fabric for white shirts, blue pants and ao dai. Preliminary survey shows that plain white ao dai is about 250,000 VND/set, embossed patterns costs 270,000 VND/set. Fabric for white shirt is about 30,000-95,000 VND/m; the fabric of dark blue pants is about 60,000 VND/m2. The cost of sewing a shirt is about 90,000 - 110,000 VND; pants: 100,000 - 110,000 VND, uniform dress: 80,000 - 120,000 VND, ao dai: 250,000 VND/set. If you order a package (both fabric and sewing), the cost is about 280,000 - 400,000 VND/set depending on the size and material.

Moderate purchasing power

However, the purchasing power of school uniforms is still moderate. Tran Thi Thanh Hoa, a seamstress at Vo Thi Sau Street (Phuoc Long ward), said that the number of orders is only half of the same period last year. Truong Thi Kim Hong, a seamstress at CT1 Nha Trang Apartment Building (Vinh Hiep commune) also said that till the end of August, she can receive orders but the number is very small.

Tran Le Bao Huong (in Quang Trung Street, Van Thang Ward) said that the epidemic made her family economy difficult, primary school students haven’t go to school, so she bought only 1 more uniform dress for her daughter in grade 5. Some sellers also said that, when the city eases the distance further, the demand to buy new school uniforms may increase more.
