Banking industry shares difficulties with borrowers

In the context of the Covid-19 epidemic, Khanh Hoa's banking has had many practical activities to accompany and share with customers, people and local authorities.

Do Trong Thao - Deputy Director of the State Bank of Vietnam (SBV) Khanh Hoa Branch said that the branch regularly deploys and directs credit institutions to proactive capital and reduce costs to reduce loan interest rates to share with customers. The lending interest rate in the province has decreased by about 0.5 - 1.5% in 2020 and continuosly decreased by 0.2%/year in the first 8 months of this year compared to the end of 2020.
 
For example, VietinBank Khanh Hoa has reduced interest rates for all customers facing difficulties due to the impact of the Covid-19 epidemic with a reduction of 0.5 to 1% per year. BIDV Khanh Hoa reduced lending interest rates for businesses’ existing loans with a reduction of 0.5 - 1.1%/year; reduced interest rates for nearly 3,000 personal loans with a total outstanding balance of VND1,500 billion. Vietcombank Khanh Hoa has reduced lending interest rates twice to support customers with a reduction of 0.5 to 1% per year. In addition, banks also restructured debt repayment terms, exempted interest and fees, and kept debt groups at the direction of the State Bank. As of August 31, credit institutions in the province have adjusted debt terms and extended debts for 2,323 customers facing difficulties due to the impact of the epidemic with a total debt value of VND 9,994 billion; in which there are 353 enterprises, the total value of principal and interest is structured as 8,288 billion dong. Particularly, the provincial Bank for Social Policies has restructured the repayment term for 935 individual customers with outstanding loans of VND 16.4 billion. Banks have reduced interest rates on old loans for 15,316 customers, with outstanding loans of 35,744 billion VND, the amount of customer interest reduced is 196 billion VND.
 
An activity that banks have implemented simultaneously in recent years is reducing online payment transaction fees for customers to encourage customers to make non-cash payments to contribute to epidemic prevention and control. Since the Covid-19 epidemic, the State Bank has reduced the fee for electronic payment transactions for customers 3 times. In addition, banks and payment intermediaries have applied many policies to waive fees for electronic money transfer transactions (Techcombank, Agribank, MB...) or offer free product packages (zero fees) with condition…

Focusing on social security work and supporting epidemic fight
 
Besides financial - monetary support activities, over the past time, Khanh Hoa banking has also focused on social security work, sharing difficulties with people. A representative of Vietcombank Khanh Hoa branch said that the branch has had a number of activities to support and share with people and local authorities in epidemic prevention and control such as giving 1,100 gifts to people in Ninh Hoa with a value of more than 200 million VND; donated 3 tons of rice to Van Thanh ward, 3 tons of rice to Van Thang ward (Nha Trang) worth 75 million VND; donated 50 million VND to the Provincial Center for Disease Control; donated 200 protective suits worth nearly 50 million VND to the provincial General Hospital; and donated 40 million VND to the People's Committee of Ngoc Hiep ward and Vinh Ngoc commune (Nha Trang). All funding is collected from the contributions of officers and branch employees.
 
According to statistics of the State Bank of Khanh Hoa Branch, the total amount of money the provincial banking has supported the province's social security and Covid-19 prevention and control is more than 16 billion VND, including supporting 1.14 billion VND for the program to buy Covid-19 vaccine, supporting the provincial Covid-19 Relief Center with more than 14.3 billion VND (3.45 billion VND in cash, 3 ambulances and 20 sets of ventilators) and 9.5 tons of rice; other support activities more than 976 million VND. With the motto of linking business activities with social security work, in the coming time, the banking will have more practical and effective activities to support and share difficulties with people, businesses and local authority in the fight against the Covid-19 pandemic.
