Taking us to the net houses growing melons, Master Nguyen Minh Ha - Deputy Head of the Suoi Dau Plant Breed Experimental Farm said that the farm has carried out growing melons for more than 2 months and will harvest in 2 weeks.
 
Melon is a high-class crop, requiring high skills and large investment, so the research and construction of the model must also correspond. Currently, the cost to make 1m2 of nethouse is 380 - 400 thousand VND/m2 or even 700 - 800 thousand VND/m2. Melons grown in a net house are ensured temperature and humidity. It can also prevent pests.

Ha shared that melons undergoes 7 phases lasting for 70 days, an average of 5-10 days/phase. Currently, melon trees are growing well, melons are about to be harvested, averagely weighing 1.7 - 2 kg/melon, an area of 1,500m2. The farm is expected to harvest 3.5 - 4 tons. In the near future, the tested melon area will be expanded by 3,000m2 (equivalent to 2 more net houses). Melons grown in this farm include 2 types: TL 3 (Thailand) and Orienji (Japan). Melons can cool and improve health... Currently, the expected selling price at the farm is 30,000 VND/kg.
 
Master Huynh Kim Khanh - Director of the Agricultural Encourage Center said that the experiment of growing melons is one of many models being deployed at the farm with the aim to provide procedures and recommendations for farmers to develop effective plant varieties that bring economic benefits. Currently, melons at the Suoi Dau Plant Breed Experiment Farm gives good results. After the experiment, the farm will develop a scientific project to ensure the sustainability of the model. Then, the farm will develop a plan to support farmers to invest, train, develop and replicate the model...
