As stated by Phung Duc Tien, before the EVFTA took effect (August 1, 2020), Vietnam’s average export of tuna to the EU was about USD 10.5 million/month. However, last August and September saw an increase of 11-13%, compared to the previous months.

Phung Duc Tien asked the localities to instruct fishermen and businesses to implement the commitments to combat IUU exploitation. Businesses need to remain up-to-date to the tariff preferences under the EVFTA to make production plans proactively; comply with the regulations on product quality, food safety and hygiene; and ensure social and environmental responsibility
