220kV Nha Trang - Thap Cham relieves renewable energy capacity

Nha Trang - Thap Cham 220kV power line aims to create a 220kV circuit linking the central coastal region, improve power supply for the region, and especially contribute to relieving renewable power sources in Ninh Thuan Province and the region.

Nha Trang - Thap Cham 220kV power line aims to create a 220kV circuit linking the central coastal region, improve power supply for the region, and especially contribute to relieving renewable power sources in Ninh Thuan Province and the region.

The  Nha Trang - Thap Cham 220kV power line project was started construction in December 2017, invested by the National Power Transmission Corporation (EVNNPT) and managed by the Central Vietnam Power Projects Management Board (CPMB). The project has a construction scale of about 88.06 km of 220kV double circuit lines and 176 column locations passing through two provinces of Ninh Thuan and Khanh Hoa.

In recent years, localities in the South Central region have attracted large investment in renewable energy sources. Many investors have registered to survey and invest wind and solar power projects. Up to now, many projects have been put into operation, especially in the provinces of Binh Thuan and Ninh Thuan.

Currently,  the existing 220kV power line often suffers overload and a lot of capacity needs to be relieved at the station of 220kV Thap Cham.

In the coming time, more projects invested in renewable energy in this area will be approved by the local authorities to conduct surveys and be added to the planning.

In order for renewable energy projects to be effectively implemented, the synchronous development of power transmission systems in association with the planning on development of renewable energy sources is really necessary.

Accordingly, during the past time, EVNNPT has directed and gathered all resources, followed up the situation and promptly dealt with problems to implement effectively, ensuring progress in developing the transmission grid in order to contribute to the release of renewable energy capacity in the South Central region. One of them is the project of Nha Trang - Thap Cham 220kV power line.

The construction and early operation of the Nha Trang - Thap Cham 220kV line will contribute to relieve the capacity of renewable energy sources in the region, reduce the local overload on the transmission line and improve the stability and the reliability of the power supply system.
