Currently, farmers in communes Van Long, Van Khanh, Van Phuoc... of Van Ninh District, Khanh Hoa Province have entered the harvest of the winter - spring rice crop 2019-2020. Farmers are very excited as the rice has a bumper crop and good price.

In the last months of 2019, farmers of the communes  Van Long, Van Phuoc, Van Khanh, Van Tho sew more than 1,000 hectares of winter-spring rice. Thanks to the water source for irrigation from Hoa Son Lake along with the sowing on schedule, rice is well-grown. Therefore, in the rice crop of winter-spring this year, farmers are excited by much higher yield than those in previous year, reaching 8-9 tons/ha.

Nguyen Van Binh, a member of Van Long Agricultural Cooperative shared, "Rice grows well this year. I've been harvesting four poles with 36 rice bags, each of which weighs 50kg, earning 1.8 tons of rice. Rice is sold in the field for traders at 5,500 dong/kg, which gives us more profit than previous years."

Dang Thi Thanh Thu, a merchant purchasing rice in Van Khanh Commune said, "After the Lunar New Year Festival, some rice areas in Phu Yen Province have not harvested, so rice price is very high, VND5,900-6,000/kg, and now the rice areas of Van Ninh District are reaping so the rice price has decreased. It ranges from VND5,500 to 5,700/kg now."

According to Nguyen Ngoc Ý - Head of Van Ninh District Economic Division,  the winter-spring crop is the main one of the year, which is very significant to the local food production. Therefore, right from the beginning of the crop, the economic division has consulted the district People’s Committee to direct communes and towns to have specific plans to guide farmers to minimize the harmful effects of pests and ensure the yield of rice. Accordingly, this year rice in some communes such as Van Long, Van Thang and Van Binh have grown well and had high productivity.
