Technology application in tuna fishing

Science and Technology Council of Khanh Hoa Province has just accepted the topic "Technology of tuna fishing (fishing technology and preservation of tuna)".

Science and Technology Council of Khanh Hoa Province has just accepted the topic "Technology of tuna fishing (fishing technology and preservation of tuna)". The results of the thesis are the basis for people to access and apply technology to exploit, process and preserve tuna in accordance with local fishing vessels, contributing to improving the quality and value of products, increasing economic efficiency.

To enhance the value of tuna, in 2017, the Provincial People's Committee ordered Nha Trang University to implement the project "Technology of tuna fishing (fishing technology and preservation of tuna)". After more than 2 years of implementation, the team has built a process, equipment for exploitation, handling and storage of products more suitable for local tuna fishing vessels.

The research team chose to pilot Nguyen Van Thanh's ship (Vinh Tho ward, Nha Trang city), exploiting tuna by using hand-fishing combined with light in the high seas and an opposite vessel. similarities with the test ship but with the traditional way of exploiting and preserving products in the locality. During the research process, the project has organized 3 trips, 15 days for each trip. The total output of ocean tuna caught by the experimental vessels was 7,478kg, 1.13 times higher than the control vessels; the number of fish lost due to broken fishing lines during the collection of 7 fish, while the control boat lost 21.

According to sensory evaluation of experienced people at Hon Ro fishing port, tuna is graded according to 3 levels: good, fair and average. Accordingly, good fish testing vessels account for 11.4% of the production, control vessels 2.7% of the output; the good ones accounted for the highest proportion, 84.7% and 77.8% respectively, the rest were average. Dr. Nguyen Trong Luong - Deputy Director of the Institute of Fisheries Science and Technology, Nha Trang University, said: “Through the actual exploitation, it is about the output or quality. The experimental ship applied the process, technology of exploiting, treating and preserving the construction project for higher results. The total investment capital for the initial exploitation and preservation equipment according to the process is about VND 200-300 million/ship ”.

The members of the Council of Science and Technology evaluate that the research results of the project will help the management agencies to set up fisheries development policies in a reasonable manner. At the same time, it is the basis for the application of technology to effectively exploit and preserve products in local fisheries, help increase productivity, improve product quality and value, and improve fishing efficiency of fishermen.
