Pork price rises sharply

Due to the decrease in supply, pork has made continuous increase in price, which has put up prices of food and dining-out services.

Due to the decrease in supply, pork has made continuous increase in price, which has put up prices of food and dining-out services.

At some markets like Xom Moi, Phuoc Thai, etc., pork doesn’t sell well during the past month like before. Pork now has increased by VND20,000 – 30,000/kg in price. Some kinds even have risen twice.

At supermarkets, pork price has also risen by 10% - 15%. To stimulate demand, some supermarkets like Lotte Mart, Co.opmart, Big C, etc. sell pork at lower price than market price. Therefore, pork purchase at supermarkets is stable.

The high pork price has put up the prices of food. For example, price of pork pies has risen, price of dishes from pork has also increased, etc.

According to Le Thang, manager of the provincial Breeding and Veterinary Branch, the number of pigs in the province has risen be 9.5% year-on-year. However, the number of female pigs has decreased by 10% because farmers weeded out bad female pigs when pig price fell down in 2017. After loss due to the low pig price in 2017, raisers have bred fewer pigs. That’s the reason for the decrease in the pork supply and the increase in pork price now. In the time to come, when the output of pigs rises again, the supply will satisfy consumption and the prices will be lowered.

Till July, Khanh Hoa Province has 226,000 pigs, including 25,000 ones for meat and 5,000 for reproduction raised by farms, 165,000 ones raised by farms for Cp Vietnam Corporation, and 31,000 ones raised by farmers.
