Van Duy Phuc, a 12th grader who specializes in literature at Le Quy Don High School for Gifted Pupils, recommended the book “Love for Imperfect Things” of Korean writer Hae Min. With his perception, Duy Phuc found a connection between the content of the book and the theme of the contest, aspiration for national development. “The book has instilled me with the faith to love everything and appreciate myself. It is also a way for each person to develop themselves and contribute to the development of the country," said Duy Phuc.

Le Hung Quoc, a ninth-grade pupil at Bui Thi Xuan Junior High School (Nha Trang City), participated in the contest to gain more new useful knowledge. Reading books has helped Hung Quoc better understand the world around him. Therefore, he hopes that all pupils will find good and useful books to read.

Those are the messages conveyed by the three pupils who got consolation prizes at the national Reading Culture Ambassador Contest 2022. The contest was first launched by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism in 2019. The contest has become an annually cultural and education activity attracting the participation of many pupils. Khanh Hoa pupils have participated and won prizes in every edition of the national contest since 2019. This partly reflects the love of reading among pupils in Khanh Hoa. The contest helped students express their opinions, show their creativity, and spread humanistic messages to everyone.

Need for closer cooperation

Khanh Hoa’s Reading Culture Ambassador Contest 2022 ran from March to June 30, receiving more than 2,200 entries from the pupils of 76 schools in the province. This number was too small compared to the total number of 218,000 pupils and 334 schools. Many entries were poorly done. This year, clip entries didn’t meet the requirements in terms of content and form.

As the unit offering counseling and presiding over the organization of the provincial Reading Culture Ambassador Contest, in the future, Khanh Hoa Provincial Library will try to run the contest more effectively, as said by Phan Thi Kim Hanh, deputy director of the library. In order for the contest to be joined by more pupils and capture more attention of the public, it requires the cooperation of related agencies and units in the province.

Dang Quoc Van, deputy director of the provincial Department of Culture and Sports says that in order for the contest to be organized more successfully, the provincial library should cooperate with other units to increase the contest promotion to popularize the contest. The way of organization also needs to be changed to ensure professionalism and promote the creativity of contestants. The launch of the contest must be carried out in close coordination with schools to to develop reading culture in schools. The provincial Department of Education and Training needs to direct the local bureaus of education and training in the province to pay attention and encourage pupils to respond to and participate in the contest.
