New way of living amid COVID-19 pandemic

People in Nha Trang City are showing better self-discipline in complying with COVID-19 prevention and control instructions. They are adjusting to a new way of life with scale-down activities and events, such as weddings and funerals.

Suspending weddings, scaling down funerals

Nguyen Quoc Nguyen (2-4 Street, Nha Trang City) planned his wedding before the Lunar New Year 2021. However, he had to suspend his wedding because of the outbreak of COVID-19 pandemic. He and his wife were comforted and encouraged by their families; instead of wedding, they decided to register their marriage at the ward People’s Committee. Nguyen said that he was worried about the down payment having paid the wedding venue; however, the restaurant accepted cancellations and gave his money back.

Besides wedding, the way people in Nha Trang have organized funerals also reflected their improved awareness of the situation. On the whole, people tried to hold funerals and funeral visitations with simple and scaled-down rites. Many families in mourning prepare hand sanitizer and masks for the guests. People express their sympathy by words of condolence sent by messages and social networks to minimize crowded gatherings. When people announce a death, ward staff will instruct them to comply with the pandemic prevention and control measures throughout funerals and funeral visitations.

Wearing masks in public places

Currently, most people in Nha Trang are getting used to wearing masks when going out or going to public places. Since Nha Trang carried out checks and imposed strict punishment on people violating regulations on masks wearing in public places, the number of violations has reduced. Masks now have become an inseparable object of Tran Thanh Tin (Van Thanh Ward, Nha Trang). “Wearing masks is inconvenient, but it is an effective way to protect your health and people around you,” Tin said.

The measures to prevent and control COVID-19 are being implemented at many places in the city, helping people to raise an awareness of the preventive measures and form a habit of obeying the regulations.

Keeping mobilization

According to Nha Trang City Bureau of Culture and Information, in May, the city had 156 weddings and 170 funerals. 33 of the weddings were organized in new style, the rest were scaled down. As for funerals, votive papers and money were not permitted; time for funeral visitation was also limited.

“The localities have mobilized the citizens not to hold large wedding and funerals ceremonies; and avoid gatherings to curb virus. The bureau issued instructions on mask wearing at public places and sent roving propaganda vehicles to localities,” said Tran Thanh Nha, deputy head of Nha Trang Culture and Information Bureau.

Harsh punishment will be imposed to any violations of the prevention and control regulations to ensure the achieved results so far.
