The paintings express the painters’ gratitude to the older generations who sacrificed their lives for the cause of national liberation in the Great Spring Victory of 1975.

Colors of paintings

The theme of the exhibition is gratitude. The paintings emanate brightness and optimism from their colors and the painters’ brushstrokes. Through the paintings, visitors can feel the rhythm of spring, beauty of lotus in an early summer morning, landscape of Vietnam’s villages and Khanh Hoa Province, etc. There are works impressively presenting human philosophy, for example the ones of painters Vo Viet Dung, Nguyen Huu Toan, and Phan Do Tra Giang. The students' paintings show their own artistic ideas and have been well received by viewers. Some of them are the painting named Green Frog of Huynh Minh Khiem and Portrait of Le Hoang Xuan Nhi, etc.

The exhibited art works have different sizes. The painters used multiple materials and painting techniques to create their works, from watercolor, oil paint, pigments, acrylic to wood cut, plaster cut, and rubber cut. “The painting frames and materials show the investment of the painters in their works. Many works showcase the painters’ own techniques. Through the exhibition, I can learn useful things to apply to my learning,” said Tran Quoc Quy, a student of the Faculty of Arts (Khanh Hoa University).

Reportedly, Khanh Hoa University and its Faculty of Arts planned this exhibition from October 2020. After a period of launching, the organizers received 74 paintings submitted by the university’s lecturers and students. Finally, 62 paintings, 18 of which are the students' works, were selected to display at the exhibition.

Painter Bui Van Quang, head of Vietnam Fine Arts Branch in Khanh Hoa said that the exhibited art works have good artistic quality, reflecting the painters’ investment in expressing the ideas. The students applied what they had been taught and conveyed their feelings through their paintings. Meanwhile, the lecturers tried to find creative expression when creating the paintings.

Another leisure activity to attract visitors

Khanh Hoa University holds exhibitions for its lecturers and students every year to create a place for the lecturers and students to show and exchange painting skills. The exhibitions also provide them with opportunities to introduce their art works to the public. The fact that Khanh Hoa University cooperates with the provincial museum to organize this “Gratitude” exhibition also helps the museum to have another activity to attract locals and tourists to the museum. Those who love art can know more about the creative activities and contemplate the art works of the university.

Khanh Hoa University holds “Gratitude” exhibition as a way to show respect and gratitude to the older generations who sacrificed for the national independence. This is also an opportunity for the university’s lecturers and students to show their love for the homeland and their concern about contemporary life. The exhibits reflect different ideas and ways of artistic expression, but they all share common features, which are national pride and love for the country, according to Chu Dinh Loc, vice-principal of Khanh Hoa University.
