Twelve years ago, the admirers of Doctor Alexandre Yersin, an honorary citizen of Vietnam, hoped that there would be works implemented in Nha Trang City to honor and commemorate the doctor’s contributions to the city and Khanh Hoa Province. Currently, some works were implemented.
On the 66th death anniversary of Doctor Alexandre Yersin (Mach 1, 1943 - Mach 1, 2009), the Association of Admirers of Dr. Alexandre Yersin in Khanh Hoa Province organized a seminar about the doctor. At the seminar, the attendees proposed that the provincial Party Committee and provincial People’s Committee build works to commemorate the merit and contributions of the doctor, such as Alexandre Yersin Park, a street named Xom Con, an international hospital and a medical university under the name Yersin. In addition, the association also proposed creating a tour product about Dr. Yersin.

Today, some of the proposed works related to the doctor were implemented. For example, the province built Yersin Park near the doctor’s house in Nha Trang, which is now 378 Guest House. A half-length statue of the doctor was erected at the park. At the end of 2020, Khanh Hoa Provincial Department of Culture and Sports erected a commemorative stele with general information about his life and career at the park. A street was named after Xom Con, a place in Nha Trang to which Dr. Yersin had an attachment and a place which witnessed the kindness of the doctor towards the poor here as well as the bond between him and the locals. A tour to learn about the life and career of the late doctor through the monuments and places related to him was also developed. However, due to some reasons, this tour hasn’t operated effectively.
The proposed international hospital and medical university named after Dr. Yersin were regarded as great works and a big dream. If the two works were implemented, they would not only honor Dr. Yersin practically but also contribute to the local socio-economic development. Therefore, even though it's been 12 years since the proposal was submitted, the admirers of Doctor Alexandre Yersin still hope for a day when an international hospital and a medical university are built in honor of the great doctor.
Besides the works implemented in honor of Dr. Yersin, Khanh Hoa has also preserved and restored the monuments related to him. For instance, the restoration of the doctor’s working house, located at Linh Son Pagoda, was carried out and completed last July. A road to his grave in Suoi Dau has been planned.
It has been 78 years since Dr. Alexandre Yersin’s death, but the love and respect for the late doctor have still remained deep in the hearts of people in Nha Trang, Khanh Hoa. Hopefully, more and more meaningful works will be implemented and named after Yersin in order to honor his dedication to humanity and Khanh Hoa people.
