Khanh Hoa provincial library is awaiting the deployment of the model namely “Knowledge Bus”, which has been carried out in many localities throughout the country.

The “Knowledge Bus” model has been supported by the Department of Library (under the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism) in many localities throughout the country since 2018. The review of the deployment of this model in Quang Nam Province, made by the leadership of Quang Nam provincial library at the congress of the library union of the southern central and highland regions organized in Nha Trang City last June, impressed many congress attendees. Accordingly, Quang Nam provincial library was provided an eye-catching designed bus served as a mobile library, equipped with computers, publications, awnings, tables and chairs for readers. Besides Quang Nam, Gia Lai, Dak Lak, Da Nang, Lam Dong, etc. are among the localities which have been supported to carry out the “Knowledge Bus” model.

Thanks to the “Knowledge Bus” model, the provincial libraries of these localities don’t need to hire vehicles to carry books and other publications to the localities throughout provinces as before. These provincial libraries can take more initiative in carrying books to remote areas and improve reading movement in these areas. Reportedly, the “Knowledge Bus” model has been carried out with 1,620 trips to 724 places in the southern central and highland regions, serving around more than 200,000 readers per year.

Although the model of “Knowledge Bus” hasn’t been carried out in Khanh Hoa Province, the provincial library has always tried to bring books to people in remote areas over the province. In the past three years, the provincial library made 108 transfers of books to the grass roots places with 107,441 publications; has maintained book circulation among 81 schools, border posts, prisons, and communes’ cultural post offices; built a mobile store of 76,862 books to circulate books to grass roots places; held 11 book exhibitions at schools, and so on.

These activities of Khanh Hoa provincial library has contributed to bring new books to readers over the province. If the “Knowledge Bus” model is supported to be conducted in Khanh Hoa, the library’s book transfer and circulation to grass roots places will be carried out more effectively, as said by Nguyen Chau Hung, director of Khanh Hoa provincial library.

From 2018 up to now, Khanh Hoa provincial library has made many proposals to the Department of Library to conduct the “Knowledge Bus” model in Khanh Hoa. Most recently, at a meeting with Khanh Hoa provincial library, head of the Department of Library Vu Duong Thuy Nga acknowledged this proposal of the library.

The effectiveness of the “Knowledge Bus” model has been proven. Therefore, maybe, besides awaiting the support from the Department of Library, Khanh Hoa’s provincial functional agencies should put forward suggestions to the province in order to promote reading culture in the remote areas.
