Khanh Hoa Province has many unique cultural heritages; many of them have been maintained and practiced. In order to promote the values of these cultural heritages in communities, the province in recent years has carried out various practical activities.

Preserving good features

In recent years, Khanh Hoa Province has made and implemented many projects to preserve the local traditional cultural heritages, such as typical heritages of three ethnic minority groups namely the Raglai, the Ede and the T’rin, and Whale Worshipping Ceremony. The province has implemented the project to preserve and promote the values of Bai Choi (recognized as UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity) in 2015-2020 period and recently approved the preservation project for 2020-2023 period.

The province directed the provincial Department of Culture and Sports to compile and publish many in-depth books on monuments worshipping Mother Goddesses of the Three Realm, communal houses, ceremonial acts, Bai Choi, Whale Worshipping Ceremony, and so on. The department also made documentary films about Ponagar Temple Festival, Hon Chong tourism site, Nha Trang City’s ancient communal houses, monuments in Dien Khanh District, Whale Worshipping Ceremony in Truong Tay village (Nha Trang), and spring ritual ceremony at Phuoc Da Communal House, etc.

These preservation projects have contributed to preserve and spread the cultural beauties of the heritages among local communities. In the upcoming time, Khanh Hoa Provincial Department of Culture and Sports will continue to allocate funding for heritage preservation and promotion activities in the province.

Promoting cultural heritages

Khanh Hoa Province has also paid attention on promoting tourism through cultural heritage preservation. The provincial Department of Culture and Sports released 300 digital video discs about Khanh Hoa’s culture in Vietnamese with English subtitles. Khanh Hoa museum often hold exhibitions on jewelry collection of Hoa Diem ancient people. Besides, the province issued books on Bai Choi practiced in Khanh Hoa and brochures about Hon Chong tourist site and Ponagar Temple monument. The cultural activities (Cham dance, performances of traditional musical instrument, brocade weaving, pottery making, calligraphy, etc.) performed at these two tourist site and monument have also been improved in quality.

The provincial museum often holds culture-themed exhibitions in order to introduce local cultural features to visitors in and outside the country. In addition, contests on culture and history are organized regularly, helping to raise the awareness of the public about the local culture and history.

In the future, Khanh Hoa Provincial Department of Culture and Sports will intensify propaganda activities about cultural heritage preservation; revive the practice of traditional cultural activities and folk games; and gradually build and perfect legal documents on cultural heritage management to improve the efficiency of management and organization of festivals associated with tourism development.
