Nha Trang City recently organized its 21st public performance art festival. The festival, which is a biennial event, is considered as a useful playground for the amateur performers in the city to show their talents and passion for performance arts.

Promoting grass roots cultural movement

The 2020 edition of Nha Trang City’s public performance art festival was joined by hundreds of amateur singers and dancers of 15 teams from 27 communes and wards over the city. The teams performed numerous performances with different themes, such as Uncle Ho’s soldiers.

According to Nguyen Chanh Thuc, Director of Nha Trang City Center of Culture, Information and Sports, the biennial public performance art festival is a meaningful activity meeting the needs for cultural and spiritual activities of the people in the city. Practicing and exchanging among performers and teams before and during the festival can help to promote the effectiveness of cultural and performance art movement at grass roots level. Each public performance art festival also helps to discover new talent for the city’s performance art movement.

Before Nha Trang, other localities such as Cam Ranh City and Dien Khanh District had held their public performance art festival. Each locality has selected their most outstanding performances to prepare for the upcoming provincial public performance art festival. In this year’s local festivals, many teams focused on reflecting folk features and traditional art forms, for example bai choi (Vietnam’s folk art combining music, poetry, acting, painting and literature) and tuong (Vietnam classical drama).

Meaningful cultural activity

The maintenance of the provincial public performance art festival, despite different ups and downs, in the past years is a remarkable effort of Khanh Hoa Province’s cultural sector. From the stages of the public performance art festivals, many amateur performers could make progress and turned to professional activities and achieved some success.

The 2020 public performance art festival of Khanh Hoa is scheduled for August 17-20. Apart from localities, the organization committee of the provincial festival also encourages the participation of associations, businesses, armed forces, and schools.

Reportedly, Khanh Hoa’s 2020 public performance art festival will be based around the themes of studying and following President Ho Chi Minh's ideology, morality and style; praising the Party, Uncle Ho, love for homeland; revolutionary tradition of Khanh Hoa army and people, Uncle Ho’s soldiers, nation’s borders, sea, and islands. Based on these themes, each team can create performances of singing, dancing, short drama, and folk art. Traditional forms of art are encouraged.

The upcoming provincial public performance art festival is expected to create a joyful and entertaining atmosphere for locals and tourists in Khanh Hoa.
