Khanh Hoa writers should hold book launches

According to statistics, each year, Khanh Hoa writers publish around more than ten books of different genres such as short story, long story, prose, translation, literary criticism, and researches on folk culture, etc. Khanh Hoa Province also holds annual book awards to honor outstanding writers. However, nearly no seminars on good books, book seminars, or book launches have been held in the province. One of the reasons for this reality may be the writers’ hesitation in being the pioneer to create a trend. In order to bring a new fresh air to the province’s literature and arts movement, maybe the provincial Literature and Arts Association and its branches should hold book seminars and encourage the writers to hold their book launches.

Several writers in Ho Chi Minh City, many young writers among them, often hold their book launches at the city’s book street on weekends. They hold the events confidently with music, book reading and talks on their books and future plans. Apart from inviting reporters, the writers often live stream their events on social media in order to introduce widely their works. The book launches of well-known writers are similar to a big cultural event and attract the attendance of a lot of people. The literature and arts associations of surrounding provinces - Dak Lak, Binh Dinh, Phu Yen, and Binh Thuan, for instance – also often support their writers to hold book launches.

Maybe Khanh Hoa Province’s literature needs a new start to create a new motivation for the province’s writers and literary composing movement. The province’s Literature and Arts Association should offer support to promote new works of some outstanding writers in order to create social effects. Besides, the writers need to express and show their dedication and wish so that the association can give them appropriate assistance and promotion.

According to painter Tran Ha - chairman of Khanh Hoa Literature and Arts Association - the association is very supportive of the writers in organizing their own book launches. Writer Ai Duy, who has issued many good books, also supports the idea of book café. Reportedly, recently, many writers in Nha Trang City have published their books; many of them were valuable books. The fact that the writers didn’t introduce and promote their works to the public through book launches is a pity.

In the future, the province’s literature branch will organize book launch for some writers, who publish new works, according to writer Che Diem Tram, deputy head of Khanh Hoa’s literature branch. Hopefully, this activity will help to create a trend in Khanh Hoa.
