Khanh Hoa Provincial Standing Party Committee lately issued Instruction 21 directing the localities and agencies in the province to urgently complete preparing dossiers for monument ranking and placing monumental steles.

In the past years, the preservation and promotion of values of cultural and historical monuments in Khanh Hoa have achieved some certain positive results. However, some monuments have not yet been ranked, especially the monuments associated with the historical events. Some monuments have not been zoned; the exploitation of monuments’ values to serve tourism has not been carried out effectively.

According to the Instruction 21, the revolutionary monuments namely Dong Bo (Nha Trang), Dong Trang (Dien Khanh Distict), Hon Heo and Da Ban (Ninh Hoa Town) will be first ranked and zoned to be maintain the status quo. The already-ranked monuments and monuments in decade will be restored and renovated. The instruction also requires the localities and agencies to plan for investment in some monuments which can connect with tourism activities, such as Dong Bo revolutionary base, C235 Ship monument, and tomb of Dr. Alexandre Yersin.

Nguyen Dac Tai, Permanent Vice-Chairman of Khanh Hoa Provincial People’s Committee, stated that the preservation and promotion of monuments have to be based on honoring, inheriting traditional cultural values, and ensuring the harmonious connect between economic and tourism development and culture. Apart from the investment of the State, the province needs to encourage the contribution of the public in preserving and managing monuments.

Khanh Hoa Provincial Department of Culture and Sports will implement the instructions of the provincial Standing Party Committee and provincial People’s Committee. The department will cooperate with other agencies to check the situation of the monuments, especially the ones associated with the province’s revolutionary events; focus on carrying out the province’s major projects such as preserving and promoting Dien Khanh Ancient Citadel and building software for managing historical and cultural monuments; issue materials about monuments, cultural heritages in different forms to boost the propaganda for monuments and heritages, and so on.

Additionally, the department will also propose policies to improve the life of the locals living in the surrounding areas of monuments; provide financial support to preserve the monuments and relics located in the lands of the locals; encourage contributions the organizations and individuals in preserving and promoting the monuments; attract investments in tourism projects which associated with monuments; organize trips and contests about monuments to help the public, especially young people to learn more about the local monuments.

With the involvement and instructions of the authorities at different levels, hopefully, there will be an increase in number of ranked and restored monuments in Khanh Hoa Province.
