On the occasion of Lunar New Year 2019, Khanh Hoa Provincial Museum held an exhibition displaying more than documents and ancient artifacts. These exhibits bear the marks of time from prehistory and proto-history, cultural and economic exchanges in Khanh Hoa Province.

The exhibition showcased the pottery relics (pots, bowls, vases, trays, etc.) excavated at Xom Con Archaeological Site (Cam Linh Ward, Cam Ranh City) and Hoa Diem Archaeological Site (Cam Thninh Dong Commune, Cam Ranh City). The archaeological remains at Xom Con Archaeological Site, dating back to over 3,000 years ago, have decorative patterns; the relics discovered at Hoa Diem Archaeological Site were made around 2,000 years ago and had different designs.

The exhibition also included a collection of Vietnam’s currencies over time. More than 200 different types of Vietnamese currency over ten centuries displayed at the exhibition partly provided the visitors with information about the development and history of Vietnam over periods. The first money of Vietnam was the coin made in the reign of King Dinh Tien Hoang (year of 968). In the following periods, coins were made with Kings’ reigning dates. The Vietnamese paper money used from the French colonial period up to now and some money collections of other countries such as Japan, China, America, Thailand, and Cambodia were also displayed at the exhibition.

In addition, Khanh Hoa Provincial Museum showcased a collection of bronze music instruments of the Vietnamese ethnic communities in Khanh Hoa, for example Dong Son bronze drum, gongs, ma la of Êđê and Raglai people. With this collection, the visitors could learn more about the customs and traditions, cultural and spiritual features of the ethnic minorities in the province.

These exhibits were arranged and displayed in themes and in collections in order to excite and inform the visitors better, helping them to have a deeper understanding of the exhibits. Reportedly, these exhibits were collected by Khanh Hoa Provincial Museum for many years and used to be introduced to the public. However, at the most recent exhibition, these material and objects were arranged and displayed in a relatively new way following the current trend in museum exhibits. This was a first step to prepare for the new provincial museum of Khanh Hoa.
