Khanh Hoa Provincial Traditional Art Theatre presented some plays on stage again after a long time to serve audience on the 2019 Lunar New Year occasion. This brought emotions to both artists and audience.

More than 100 people, both adults and children, came to watch the programs staged at Khanh Hoa Provincial Traditional Art Theatre on February (lunar January 7). Many of the audience said that they were interested in seeing the artists performing on stage. An audience named Nguyen Thi Chin shared that she loved “Tuồng” (Vietnam’s classical drama) and folk-songs very much, and she used to see staged plays many time when she was young. She still enjoyed seeing plays presented on stage although the atmosphere now was quite different from the past, she added. “It was interesting seeing Bài Chòi shows at school, but it is even more interesting seeing the artists performing on stage. The sound and lighting system help me to get into the plays better,” said Kim Loan, student at Au Co Junior High School (Nha Trang).

In around 90 minutes, the artists performed the items of Bài Chòi, folk song, and the drama about Chi Pheo and Thi No based on the work of the late Vietnamese writer Nam Cao. As said by artist Do Ngoc Tam, these items had been arranged in a concise style and were rich in meaning to be performed at schools and street art festivals. They were presented on stage to serve the locals and tourists on Lunar New Year.

Tuong artists also presented a Tuong drama which was staged at the end of 2018. Prior to the program, the artists went to some public places in the city to give invitations to the passers-by. The show was also introduced to the public through the loudspeaker system. Thanks to these works, many people knew about the program and went the theatre to see the plays. At the street shows, the audience could only see the extracts from the dramas, whereas they could see a whole drama at the theatre. Performing in a whole drama also helped the artists to get more involved in their characters.

There had been almost no shows being played at Khanh Hoa Provincial Traditional Art Theatre for a long time. In an effort to attract audience, the leaders of the theatre are trying to make cooperation with tourism units. Hopefully, this effort of Khanh Hoa Provincial Traditional Art Theatre will have good results so that more and more programs of traditional arts will be played at the theatre in the future.
