Seven-year-old Luong Nhat Minh living in An Dinh Hamlet, Dien Phuoc Commune, Dien Khanh District, Khanh Hoa Province has been fighting his blood cancer for three years.
Minh’s mother Nguyen Thi Trinh said that Minh was diagnosed with blood cancer around the time she gave birth to her second child (2016), who is now three years old. Minh spent more than one year undergoing treatment at Hue Central Hospital (Hue Province) before entering remission and being allowed to return home. He was happy that he could go to school. However, he relapsed and was hospitalized at Hue Central Hospital again on August 25. His family was told his disease grew worse. Minh feels fatigue after receiving chemotherapy; he has also lost almost all his hair. After over one month of treatment, the doctor discovered that the cancer cells became resistant to chemotherapy and were been present in his spinal cord. Minh was brought home and has been taken care at home according to his doctor’s instructions.

Since Minh was diagnosed with blood cancer, his parents had to quit their long-time job to have time taking care of him. Minh’s aunt offered much help looking after him and his younger brother, especially during the time his mother was hospitalized for appendix surgery recently.
The local authorities defined Minh’s family as poor household; therefore, they have been given some policy support. However, the medicines that are not covered by his health insurance are too expensive. Minh’s parents borrowed over VND100 million from many people to pay for his treatment. Minh’s grandparents do not have much money to help their grandchild.
Despite his severe disease, Minh wishes that he can continue studying at school. He says that his favorite subject is English. Hopefully, the readers and sponsors everywhere will offer assistance to help Minh keep fighting with his disease.
