A mother with cancer needs help

Le Thi Kieu My (aged 34, population group 12, Ninh Hiep Ward, Ninh Hoa Town, Khanh Hoa) was diagnosed with liver cancer when she was eight month pregnant with her second child. My refused to have treatment for the safety of her child. However, she had to have caesarean delivery because of her bad health condition. Nguyen Tan Dat, four months old now, was born healthy but has lacked maternal care since birth. Cuong, My’s husband had to ask for help from their parents in order to earn their living and care for his wife. Their eldest child, born in 2008, has lived with Cuong’s parents while Dat has been looked after by My’s parents.

My has brief meeting with her little child before being transferred to Cho Ray Hospital.

According to Doctor Trinh Ngoc Hiep, Head of Department of Oncology of Khanh Hoa General Hospital, My was diagnosed with liver cancer in June, 2016. At present, the cancer has spread to her lungs and brain. She was transferred to Cho Ray Hospital (Ho Chi Minh City) on October 19 with the help from Thien Tam Charity (Ninh Hoa).

Reportedly, the income of My’s family has mainly come from the unstable earnings of Cuong who works as a building painter. “I am almost unemployed during the rainy season. We sold all valuable assets for the sake of my wife’s treatment and now we cannot afford to pay medical expense. We wish to receive the assistance from people to help my wife keep being treated,” said Cuong.

Support can be sent directly to Nguyen Huy Cuong (0169 513 2196) or to the charity box of Khanh Hoa Newspaper office at 77 Yersin St., Nha Trang City or Khanh Hoa Newspaper’s bank account at VietinBank – Khanh Hoa Branch (account number 102010000491523).
