According to Doctor Trinh Ngoc Hiep, Head of Department of Oncology of Khanh Hoa General Hospital, My was diagnosed with liver cancer in June, 2016. At present, the cancer has spread to her lungs and brain. She was transferred to Cho Ray Hospital (Ho Chi Minh City) on October 19 with the help from Thien Tam Charity (Ninh Hoa).

Reportedly, the income of My’s family has mainly come from the unstable earnings of Cuong who works as a building painter. “I am almost unemployed during the rainy season. We sold all valuable assets for the sake of my wife’s treatment and now we cannot afford to pay medical expense. We wish to receive the assistance from people to help my wife keep being treated,” said Cuong.
